ATLANTA, GA — Claire Blumenthal, 90, passed away on December 31, 2011. She was born on July 7, 1921 in Greensboro, NC to Aaron and Gertrude Hyman and she graduated from Women's College in Greensboro.
She had a beautiful and interesting life with her husband, Dr. Irvin Blumenthal, a general surgeon whom she married on March 22, 1944. Dr. B. died at the age of 86, four years previously. They were married for 63 years and traveled the world and were known by so many people. The lived over 60 years in Atlanta and were active members of the Standard Club and all her children were confirmed at The Temple.
She is survived by her brother, Jerry Hyman of Greensboro, NC; her brother-in-law, Sol Blumenthal of Atlanta; her four children and their wives; Rick and Esti Blue of Atlanta, Jim and Janet Blue of Seattle, WA, Lisa Blue-Baron of Dallas, TX, and John and Lisa Blue of Greensboro, NC. CB, as she liked to be called, had eight grandchildren: Sharone married to Scott and living in Atlanta; Danny living in Los Angeles; Michele married to Marc, also Stephanie and Catherine, all of Seattle; and Alessandra, Natalie and Caroline in Dallas, TX. She also had three great-grandchildren; Ari in Atlanta, and Miller and Madeline in Seattle.
The family wishes to give a heartfelt thanks to her caretaker, Cathy Dunham, who was by her side for more than a year. Also, a special thank you to Hubert Tinsley, who has always been a loyal and close friend. CB will always be known for her sense of humor and quick wit. She never met a stranger and people were drawn to her by her personality. There was no place that she went that she was not always teasing someone. Her jokes were widespread and everyone knew they would be the object of her humor. She was a part of so many people's lives and she will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, 11 a.m. at the Hebrew Cemetery in Greensboro with Rabbi Fred Guttman officiating.

Dear Blue's Jim, Rick, Liza and John
With a lot of sadness we knew this week about the death on the last day 31/11 of Ms Claire, our dear friend and person who radiated joy and good mood where spending. With sorrow we share with you the longing that she leaves us and put the layout to what you need to pass this time. Despite the distance we live from one to another, the moments that we could be together, in Brazil or in the United States will always be remembered with the best of our lives. A kiss and a big hug to all sons, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law and grandchildren of our dear Ms Claire. We are sorry for the lost of our unforgetable Mrs. Claire, this were the way we used to call her. What a beautiful compassionate woman she was.
Love to all your family, from the Martins`s in Brazil.

Dear Blumenthal Family,
It was with great sadness that we heard of the passing of Mrs. B. The entire Jelkes family loved her and we have so many fond memories of her and Dr. B as our neighbors on Longleaf Drive. We grew up with your family and remember all of you and your children with great affection. Your mother was a natural comedian, who always had a hilarious quip and a talent for making people laugh. Her humor and wit were unsurpassed, and she was also a caring and loyal friend. We feel so fortunate to have known her, and she will be greatly missed. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family.
Love,
The Jelkes Family

When Dr. B. died, I was heartbroken for Claire, as I remembered how much he loved her, how much he was in awe of her, and how absolutely funny she was! I am so sorry for your loss, but I bet you that she and Dr. B. are up there, together, driving Drs. Shea, Veitch, and Weinberg absolutely nuts! What a wonderful family to have had both Dr. B. and Clair. My deepest sympathy goes out to the children, grandchildren, and extended family who have lost a treasure.

We are sorry to hear from Richard Weiner about Claire's passing. We had the pleasure of meeting and being with Irv and Claire in 1989 when I took a sabatical in Atlanta. Richard is our nephew , married to our neice Marla . It was a fantastic experience to meet them , to play golf with Irv, for my wife Yetta to get to know Claire while i was doing my work, and spending the Passover with thier family. We loved them both. They were fun to be with and wonderful hosts.
