Claire Grace (White) Mader, 105, died peacefully in her sleep Saturday, May 19, 2018. Born February 1, 1913 to John and Elsie (Lewis) White in Lake Placid, NY.
Her parents ran the general store on Mill Hill. She graduated from Lake Placid High School and went on to work in the Office of Price Administration in charge of ration books. She started work at The Bank of Lake Placid in 1943 and became an officer. She was president of many organizatons: Hospital Auxiliary, Garden Club of Lake Placid, Founders Club of Sarasota. She was a Hospice volunteer and continued to serve into her late 90's by knitting caps for Beanie Babe's for troops to wear under their helmets. She was a member of the Adirondack Church of Lake Placid and Church of the Palms in Sarasota Florida. She made her home in Sarasota Florida beginning in 1964 part time and full time in 1984. Claire painted, did needlepoint and enriched the lives of those around her by her intelligence, wit, fun spirit and generosity.
She is predeceased by her husband Frederick G. Mader (1982), her parents, her sisters Roberta White, Eleanor White Small, and her brother Jack White. Her stepson Paul Mader and grandson P.K. Mader.
She is survived by her daughter in law Jeanne (Randall) Mader, granddaughter, Susan Mader MacLennan, her children Duncan Frederick MacLennan and Claire Catherine MacLennan, granddaughter in law Eileen Liseno (widow of P.K. Mader), their children Justin and Nolan Mader and children and grandchildren of her sister Eleanor White Small.
A memorial service was held May 23, at Bay Village, Sarasota.
Memorial services in Lake Placid will take place sometime in the summer.
