Claire Scully Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 26 to Jan. 28, 2009.
Claire Helene Scully (Charbonneau) August 8, 1928 - January 24, 2009 In hospital on Saturday January 24, 2009, at age 80. The centre and soul of her large family, Claire was a devoted wife, sister, mother and grandmother. She will be deeply missed by Edgar, her husband of 51 years; her children, Carolyn (Michel), Marie (Frank), Brian (Sandra), Sharon, Rachelle (Dan), Kevin (Kathy), Paul (Pauline) and Lisa (James) and her 17 grandchildren, Nicolas, Eric, Sophie, Bridget, Hannah, Tabitha, Grace, Rosemary, Alex, Robbie, Dawson, Donovan, Colin, Jason, Justin, Joel, and Leah. A loving sister to Donald (Isabel), and Wilfred (predeceased), and sister-law to Ernie (Phyllis), Father M.J., Clifford (predeceased) (Lois) and Basil (predeceased). Claire was guided by a strong faith and devoted much of her time and energy to her work with the Catholic Church, in particular as sacristan at Ste-Genevieve, where she will be greatly missed. She was an active member of the Legion of Mary for several years during which she enjoyed fulfilling many roles. Her strong devotion to St. Pio guided her through her later years. Volunteering at the Perley Rideau Veterans' Home also brought her much pleasure. When Claire did sit still, her favourite place to relax was at her cottage in the Wakefield area where she spent many hours watching her bird feeders and tending her garden. Extremely capable, yet always humble, those who met Claire were struck by her kindness and her quiet inner strength. Friends may pay respects at the Kelly Funeral Home, 1255 Walkley Rd. (1 block East of Bank St.) on Wednesday, January 28th, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral at Ste-Genevieve Parish, 825 Canterbury Ave. Thursday, January 29th at 11 a.m. Many thanks to the staff at the Ottawa Hospital, General Campus, in particular Dr. Richard Van Der Jagt and the nurses on 5est and CCU. Donations can be made to the Ottawa Hospital Foundation.
