Clara Guerra y Rojas Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 24, 2025.
Clara Delia Guerra y Rojas ("Fermi"), 95, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2025, in Hialeah, Florida. Born on November 24, 1929, in La Habana, Cuba, she lived a life marked by intellectual passion, unwavering dedication to education, and deep spiritual faith.

Clara earned her Ph.D. from the University of Havana, a reflection of her lifelong commitment to learning and scholarship. Her academic accomplishments laid the foundation for a distinguished career in education-one that would span nearly two decades and leave a lasting impact on countless lives.

From approximately 1972 until her retirement in 1991, Clara served as a respected teacher at Commonwealth High School in Hato Rey, Puerto Rico. There, she was known not only for her formidable intellect but also for her warmth, compassion, and dedication to her students. Her classroom was a place of inspiration and growth, where generations of young minds were challenged, encouraged, and transformed. Many former students remembered her as a beloved mentor who instilled in them a love of learning and a drive to excel.

Following her retirement, Clara made her home in Hialeah, Florida. Independent and vibrant, she continued to lead an active life-remarkably still driving well into her nineties. She embraced this chapter of life with the same spirit and vitality that had always defined her.

A devout Catholic, Clara attended church faithfully and drew strength from her deep and abiding faith. Her spirituality was both a personal anchor and a guiding light in her professional life.

In quiet moments, Clara found joy in reading-an enduring reflection of her curiosity, intellect, and love of knowledge.

She is lovingly remembered by her son, Salvador Acosta; her daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Glick; and her cousin, George Esfakis. She was preceded in death by her parents, Amador Guerra y Sanchez and Clara Delia Rojas y Cardenas.

Clara's legacy lives on in the many lives she touched-as an educator, a family member, a friend, and a faithful servant of God. May her memory be a blessing, and may her life continue to inspire all who knew and loved her.

In lieu of flowers or sympathy gifts, the family kindly asks that donations be made to one of Clara's favorite charities: the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Thank you, and may God bless you.

I will remember her as a wonderful teacher. The laughter and our conversation after I left Commonwealth will be with me, always!
