Clara McQuaid Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 19, 2018.
Clara McQuaid (nee Clarkin) born August 18, 1921 in Charlottetown, PEI. Passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 18, 2018 in Toronto, Ontario. Beloved wife of the late John Frances. Survived by her daughters Carol Marquis, Flo Rickerby (Gary), Teresa Hughes, her son Michael (Leanne) and daughters-in-law, Dianne McQuaid and Krissy Stagg. Predeceased by her parents Peter Clarkin and Sarah Egan, step-mother Annie Herrell, siblings, John, Leo and Sister Eileen Clarkin, sons, Leo, Donnie and Ken, daughter-in-law, Anne Daly and son-in law, Colin Hughes. Cherished Grammy to 17 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Despite the many challenges in her life, she had an amazing sense of adventure, a joyous spirit and was loved by all who knew her. She always had a place at her table and often a bed for any visitor from PEI. A long-time employee at St. Michael's Hospital, she filled her life with a myriad of volunteer commitments after her retirement. She was still making soup for the residents of Fife House at 89 years of age and was affectionately known as 'Clara the Soup Lady'. Deepest appreciation for the caring and kindness of all staff and volunteers at Fudger House. Visitation at Rosar-Morrison Funeral Home (467 Sherbourne St, Toronto) on Wednesday, June 20 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church (520 Sherbourne St, Toronto) on Thursday, June 21 at 10am . Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Daily Bread Food Bank, St. Vincent de Paul or Fife House would be appreciated by the family.

Our sincere sympathy to all of you on the passing of Clara - such a wonderful lady. I have very fond memories of her coming to visit my parents, Jim and Regena McCloskey of Prince Edward Island in past summers. Everyone always looked forward to those visits each year. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Thinking of all of Clara's Family at this Time. Clara was a lovely person. My Sister Bernadette Larkin was very fond of Clara and Johnney. She stayed with Clara , when she first went to Toronto. She was also good friends with Unk. One time she was coming home to pei and she wanted to surprise Mom (Helen Larkin ) and the rest of us.so that day she was coming, mom got a telegram from Unk Saying Bernadette would arrive at the Train Station at 4 pm. so we were all there to greet her , all excited to see her. The look on her Face when she seen us at the station. How did you know I was coming she says. Mom said we had a telegram from Unk. She said wait till I see that Unk. He did it for Badness. My Mother Mary Runighan-Robichaud was very fond of Clara and spoke of her often. I think they were cousins and mothers were sisters? Could be wrong. Our thoughts are with you and the family and to let you know we are thinking of you. Never ever easy to lose your loved ones. Carol Robichaud & Family.
