Tyler, Clarence
8/6/1931 - 5/3/2023
Stuart, FL
Clarence (Clare) Tyler passed away May 4, 2023 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Clare embraced life for 91 years. He was born to Clarence and Salymea Tylicki on August 6, 1931 in Cleveland, Ohio. Clare is survived by daughters Laurel Tyler (Pete Mitchell), Monica Grogan (Tim Grogan), and Pam Butt (Tim Butt); grandchildren Sarah, Emma, Ian, Sean, Erin, Kathryn, Tyler (Julia), Erik (Chelsea), and Emily (Aidan); great grandchildren Eloise and Delaney; sister-in-law Mary Tyler; and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Molly, in 2022 and his brother Theodore Tyler.
Raised in Garfield Heights, OH, he earned a BS in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University in 1953. After two years in the U.S. Army Anti-Aircraft command, Clare spent his career working for Sohio and BP, retiring as Manager of the Toledo Refinery.
Clare was a lifelong learner. He completed the senior executive Program at the Sloan School of Business at MIT. During his long career in the Oil Industry he authored several technical papers, received two patents and served as chairman of a permanent committee of the American Petroleum Institute. After retiring, he earned an MA in history from the University of Toledo. He was known for a keen grasp of history, especially the Civil War period.
While living in Toledo, Clare served on the Boards of the Boy Scouts and Junior Achievement of N.W.Ohio. He also served as Chairman of the Advisory Board of St. Charles Hospitals, vice chairman of the United Way of Greater Toledo and was a long time chairman of the Orchestra Relations Committee of the Toledo Symphony Orchestra.
After retirement he split his time between Stuart, FL and Ann Arbor, MI. He loved playing poker and bridge, spending time near the water, and winning trivia competitions. He and Molly traveled the world, often enjoying study tours. When he was at home, he always had a book close at hand, but when he was out he knew how to enjoy a party. He enjoyed an active social life at University Commons in Ann Arbor and Indian River Plantation in Stuart and volunteered at St Joseph school in Stuart.
A funeral service will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Ann Arbor, MI on June 8th at 11:30 AM. A luncheon will follow. There will be a livestream of the funeral, please contact us for details if interested.

My condolences to your family. I was a friend of your mother at MCO. We shared much during that time and I have often thought of her and your father.

My condolences to the Tyler family. I knew "Clar" as he was called at the BP Refinery in Oregon. May you find comfort in the memories you have of
him.
