Clarice Crawford Crisp, 77 of Sylva went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at Harris Regional Medical Center. She was born in Jackson County on April 28, 1933 to the late Augustus Chastain and Nellie Melida Derrick Crawford. She was an avid quilter and gardener and loved traveling out west. She attended and was a member of Balsam Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Verlon Crisp, three sisters, Lucy McGinis, Sarah Frady and Velma Crawford and three brothers, Jack, Bobby and Donald Crawford. She is survived by two sons, Terry Crisp and his wife, Ruby of Sylva and David Crisp and his wife, Ginger of Balsam; two daughters, Rhonda Crisp of Sylva and Sheila Williams and her husband, Lee of Waynesville; three brothers, A. C. Crawford of McAddenville, Lewis Crawford of Cramerton and Ray Crawford and his wife, Donna of Sylva; six sisters, sue Wright of Canton, Lib Wright of Canton, Dot Roberts and her husband, Wilburn of Brevard, Sally Galloway of Waynesville; Elaine Allison and her husband, Hugh of Dellwood and Thelma Edwards and her husband, James of Bostic; seven grandchildren, Racheal Postell, Daniel Keener, Jennifer Keener, Jason Crisp, Anthony Crisp, Samuel Crisp and Alaina Crisp; five great grandchildren and a special friend, Viola Gentry of Webster. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Friday, February 18, 2011 at Balsam Baptist Church with the Reverend Johnny Swanger, Reverend Harden Nicholson, Reverend David Crisp and Reverend David Souderes will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 pm Thursday evening at Garrett Funerals and Cremations and at other times at the residence. Burial will be in the Balsam Baptist Church Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Memorial contributions may be made to the Balsam Baptist Church Cemetery Fund. The family wishes to express a special thanks to Balsam, Willets, Ochre Hill Fire Department First Responders. Garrett Funerals and Cremations have been entrusted with the arrangements.
