Claudio Garcia Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 12, 2010.
We lost our Poppy Tuesday, March 9, 2010, after a short, courageous battle with lung cancer and emphysema. Claudio came to the United States from Havana, Cuba in 1944 and quickly embraced his new country. He worked for more than 40 years for National Airlines and continued as the company was bought by PanAm. After retirement, he worked for Hitachi for 10 years and then moved to Las Vegas to enjoy warm sunshine and a new chapter in his life to include numerous new friends. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends who loved him very much. Born August 23, 1924, he was 85 when he passed away, leaving behind a very saddened family, His wife of 62 years, Mary; 5 children, Lori (Robert) Hart, Ronald (Patricia) Garcia, Michael (Christine) Garcia, Richard (Deborah) Garcia, and devoted son and caregiver of our parents, Terry J. Garcia. Poppy also leaves behind grieving grandchildren, Debby Carter, Tammy (Kenny) Meyers, Ron Garcia Jr., Rachal Garcia, Ryan Garcia, Cady Garcia, and Richard (Ricky) Garcia; great-grandchildren, Justin Carter Meyers (Carrie), Brandon Meyers, Jordan Meyers, Nolan Meyers, Derek Davis, Alyssa Ross and Amber Vincent. A memorial service is pending in Las Vegas. No flowers please. Should you wish to make a donation in his memory, please do so to the American Cancer Society. Happy Birthday Poppy. We miss you. Rest in peace.

We were sadden about Claudio's passing and how difficult it is for Mary and family.

Claudio was a great person and we will miss our weekly talks. He always had such a great attitude. We became even closer to Mary and Claudio because of the great relationship they had with Murray's dad. We will miss him.

Our deepest sympathy to all the family.

I was saddened to learn about Claudio’s passing. He was my first supervisor when I started for National Airlines in 1963, and he was instrumental in my continuing my career at National and then at Pan Am. Claudio’s encouragement and the patience he extended to me will never be forgotten. He was truly "one of the good guys". Our sincere sympathy goes to his entire family.

It's about 50 years now since I see Poppy and Mary, but time cannot erase LOVE. GOD allowed our lives to touch long ago in Tampa,Florida, and for that I am thankful. Poppy continues on with God now in a new location, and LOVE NEVER FAILS. GOD IS LOVE.
Always & Forever Your Friend,
Valorie

Poppy was a wonderful man... The strongest, greatest person you would have ever met. They tell me the pain gets easier every day but for some reason it is not. I keep hearing his voice in my head. My last conversation with Poppy the Friday before he passed was him telling me he is going to beat this horrible disease. Cancer was not going to get him. Well the Cancer didn't - the Chemo did. I love you with all my heart Poppy, I am going to miss you terribly. Please watch over all of us especially Granny. I promise you we will do our best to take care of her the way you did for 62 years. I love you, may you rest in peace now without any more pain and discomfort.
Love always,
Your Grandaughter

I have had the privilege of knowing the Garcia family for the last 13 years. I met Claudio as he called to have his carpet cleaned. He has always been one of my favorite people and he is one that I feel lucky to call "friend". My daughter (who loves airplanes) loved listening to Claudios stories of when he was an airplane mechanic. I will miss him, as will my family. Terry and Mary please don't hesitate to call if I can assist you in any way. Your friend, Todd Cottino. 595-0488.
