Clay Reid Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 15, 2024.
Clay Martin Reid passed away on July 9, 2024, after a valiant three-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Clay was born on June 2, 1956 in Murray, Utah to Margene (Larsen) Reid and Bruce Wallace Reid. He was the youngest of 4 children, and graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1974.

Clay married in 1978 and together they had three daughters: Melinda, Brooke, and Stephanie. Clay loved sports, so you would often find him teaching his three girls soccer, basketball, or any other game that he made up on the spot.

Later in life, Clay earned his master's degree from the University of Utah and was an educator for 21 years. After retiring, he enjoyed the simple life of golf, hanging out with friends and family, Real and Royals soccer games, U of U football games, movies, a good TV series, puzzles, and more golf. Clay also loved playing any sort of game and was very competitive. If you know, you know. He never missed a day playing Wordle and would send his stats to his sister to see who guessed the word quicker. Competitive much?

His three daughters and nine grandchildren were his pride and joy. Clay was very proud of his grandkids and attended every sporting event, play, track meet, and recital, even though he may not have felt 100%.

Words cannot express the profound loss we all feel since Clay's passing. We take comfort in knowing he is no longer suffering and is free from pain. To say he, his sense of humor, and his quick wit will be missed, is an understatement. He is survived by his three daughters: Melinda Wyatt (Stacy), Brooke McGuire (Tracy), and Stephanie Safford (Todd), nine grandchildren: Payton, Bronson, Camryn, Corbin, Aiden, Tyler, Dylan, Ellie & Emma, brother Frank (Janet), and sister Jolynn, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Margene, father Bruce, and brother Clark.

We would like to express our gratitude to Huntsman Cancer center, specifically Meredith S. Bannon PA-C, for taking care of our dad for as long as they did. Thank you also to the staff at Quality Home Health and Hospice for your support at the end of his journey.

A Celebration of Life will be held on September 7, 2024 at 12025 S. Draper Ridge Dr., Draper, UT. This will be an open house from 4:00-7:00. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Huntsman Cancer center or another charity of your choice.

We love you forever, Dadio.

After Clay left our employer to become a teacher, I remember I was trying to establish a handicap and play in a men's league. I joined River Oaks golf club. I hadn't seen Clay for several years, but It just so happened that he ran the league and was the president at River Oaks. We reconnected then and for over 20 years played in different golf leagues together. The best times were after a 9-hole round, we sat down for a drink or two, and had long talks about family and life. Those times meant a lot to me .. we were always smiling, reminiscing about family and sports, and all the grandkids. He would tell me about the kids playing soccer and running track. He was so very proud of them. The best part of golf was the end when we spent time hanging out. I'll miss those times with Clay.

Clay was always so good to me ! I just keep thinking about the time we played in a golf tournament, and me, Jesse and Jerry were laughing and kidding around, having the best time with Clay. At the end, he turned to me in front of the guys and said, "this is the best time I've had playing in a tournament in a long time!" I felt great as I wasn't the best player, but he always stuck up for me and my terrible shots! Jesse told me he always looked forward to.playing in tournaments with us. I'm really going to.miss him. Prayers, support and love to you all .. Your dad was a true friend and we loved him very much.

In 1986, we moved here from California to work at Salt Lake Circuits. I remembered Clay didn't really care for Californians coming in and working in the job, but when he got to know me better and I let him know I was born in Texas, things changed for the better. This was the start of a lifetime friendship. We had a lot of great times! He will be missed. We send love and prayers to all of the family. Your Dad was really proud of you girls and all you accomplished. He told us so many wonderful things about you all!
