Clifford D. Artman

ROME — Clifford D. Artman, age 88, a 58-year resident of Rome, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2007, after a brief illness.Born March 26, 1919 in Turnersville, Pa., he was a son of the late Samuel and Exta (Schwartz) Artman. He was married to Mary Pennell on May 11, 1942 in Andover, Ohio.A Veteran, Mr. Artman served in the U.S. Army, European Theatre, 134th evacuation hospital, as a surgical technician during World War II where he received numerous medals and decorations.He was a 14-year member of the Rome Volunteer Fire Department, many years serving as secretary/treasurer. He was a strong family man who enjoyed gardening, sports, science, and mechanics. He was a business owner for many years and after retirement began working for Grand River Hardwood until retiring for the 2nd time at age 71.Survivors include his wife, Mary; son, Donald (Georgia Jobes) of Warren; son, Gene (Julie Armstrong) of Hartsgrove; daughter, Irene Branson (Rodger) of Victoria, Tex.; son, Patrick (Robin Cunningham) of Roaming Shores; daughter, Joanne Hall (Michael) of Richmond Center; and daughter, Jeannette of Rome. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Geraldine Nelson of Ashtabula and Gertrude Perry of St. Petersburg, Fla.He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, George, Kenneth, and Perry; two sisters, Mabel Mullins and Dorothy Arcaro; and a granddaughter, Angela Branson.A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. at Rome Presbyterian Church, Route 45, Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007, officiated by Mary Jo Foust.Calling Hours will be held at PAINE-GUERRIERO FUNERAL HOME, 140 E. Main St., Orwell, Ohio, on Friday, Dec. 14, 2007, from 6 to 8 p.m.Donations in his memory may be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve.
