Margaret J. (Hayes) Hegarty, 87, of Beverly, passed away on Friday, February 10. Born April 12, 1935, in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Timothy and Mary (Maloney) Hayes. Margaret was the beloved wife of the late Thomas E. Hegarty, Jr., with whom she shared 50 years of marriage.
Margaret attended The Little Flower School in Somerville where Tom introduced himself to Margaret by throwing snowballs at her in kindergarten. She graduated from St. Joseph's High School and worked as an administrative assistant in Boston. Margaret and Tom got married on August 27, 1960, lived in Somerville, and later moved to Beverly to raise their five children. Margaret's favorite role in life was being a Mother and Nana. She was always there to lend an ear, give a hug, or make you laugh, and if that wasn't enough, she'd bake you some brownies. Margaret and Tom loved spending time at their cottage on Granny Kent Pond in
Shapleigh, Maine, where memories of swimming, boat parades, and game nights will live on for years.
Margaret had the gift of gab, was a pro at arranging flowers, and was Tom Brady's biggest fan. She loved a hot cup of coffee, a nice piece of fish, and a bowl of ice cream. She wouldn't go out if her hair wasn't done, and always made sure she had her earrings on and fresh lipstick. We are grateful that she gave us time to say goodbye and tell her how deeply she was loved.
Margaret is survived by her three sons, Thomas Hegarty and his wife Susan of Merrimac, Timothy Hegarty and his wife Patricia of Beverly and Stephen Hegarty and his wife Carole of
Shapleigh, ME; two daughters, Kathleen Hegarty of Stoneham and Julianne Costa and her husband Stephen of Beverly; grandchildren, Ryan and Rebekkah Hegarty, Daniel Hegarty, Brianna and Peter Sucharewicz, Hannah and Sean Costa, Derek, Jillian and Cameron Hegarty and Nathaniel and Michael Linscott and great grandchildren, Thomas and Timothy Hegarty. Margaret is also survived by her brother-in-law, Richard Hegarty of Beverly. She was predeceased by her brother, John and his wife Carol and three sisters, Mary Murphy and her husband James, Catherine Fiore and her husband Anthony and Ellen Cremone and her husband Robert.
