Johns Island - Clifford Lyndon "Red" Scholefield, 92, of Johns Island, SC, passed away at home on Monday, January 30, 2023, surrounded by his wife and four daughters.

A private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Red was born February 9, 1930, in Norwich, NY, to Kenneth and Marjorie Scholefield. Red is survived by his wife of 69 years, Marjorie G. Spring Scholefield; four daughters: Debbie Smith, Kathy Pitcher (David), Lynn Powers (Ronald), and Pam Scholefield (Bryan Weaver); two sisters: Shirley Barton and Marilyn Villante. He is also survived by five grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Red was a veteran of the United States Air Force and was proud to have served and participated in the Berlin Airlift. Red graduated from Iowa State with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and later became a licensed professional engineer. He had a long career as an electrical engineer with General Electric. From 1961 through 1972 in Huntsville, AL, he worked alongside other GE employees from 37 different operations to help NASA send 24 people to the moon and back. After Huntsville, Red was transferred by GE to Gainesville, FL, where he worked as an engineer and then Manager of Battery Design & Application Engineering, before retiring from Energizer Battery Company in Gainesville. In his final positions with the company, Red traveled the world representing the company and consulting with their customers and suppliers. During his career, Red's technical design talents were documented in patents obtained by his employers. Red was active as a volunteer for the Friends of the Library in Gainesville. He selected and procured equipment for improvements including the design and building of new sorting tables. He designed a new floor plan that improved traffic flow and enhanced accessibility.

In 2017, Red and Marge relocated from Gainesville, FL, to Johns Island, SC.

During his lifetime, Red became very well known in the Radio Controlled airplane flying club scene and the Academy of Model Aeronautics. He authored numerous articles related to RC flying and batteries which were published in both local and national magazines. After retirement, he also ran "Red's R/C Battery Clinic" where he sold, and provided technical information for, all things battery-related.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to The Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy, website: https://www.foundationforpn.org/.
