Clifford Vanderpool Obituary

Clifford L. Vanderpool, 81, of Towanda RR 2, Towanda Township, Pa., passed away Sunday, Dec. 16, 2007, at the Bradford County Manor in West Burlington Township, Pa.

Born Sept. 4, 1926, in Towanda Township, Pa., he was the son of the late Lincoln Vanderpool and Bertha L. Benjamin Vanderpool.

In earlier years, Clifford was employed by the Lehigh Valley Railroad.

During World War II., Clifford served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater as a Pioneer in Company L, 123rd Infantry Regiment from 1944 to 1946 and was part of the U.S. Occupation Forces in Japan.

He was employed by Dunn Brothers Construction Co. in Towanda, Pa., for many years and was later self-employed as a carpenter in the area.

Clifford was a member of Towanda American Legion Post No. 42 and the Monroeton Rod and Gun Club. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping.

Surviving are: his children, Clifford L. Knowles and his wife, Martha, of Franklindale, Pa., Lynn "Pete" Vanderpool and his wife, Gloria, of West Franklin, Tracy L. Vanderpool and his wife, Kate, of Towanda RR 2, and John Vincent and his wife, Cindy, of Liberty Corners, Pa.; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his sisters, Betty Kutyana and her husband, Joe, of Towanda, Dorothy Vanderpool of Towanda, and Wilheleminia Benjamin of Towanda RR 2; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and his very good friend, Harry Place of Towanda.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lincoln in 1957; his mother, Bertha, in 1975; brothers and sisters-in-law Woodrow L. Vanderpool and Anna Vanderpool, both in 2005, Lincoln Vanderpool, in 1976, and Phyllis Vanderpool, in 1971; and brothers-in-law, Howard W. Vanderpool Sr., in 2007, and James W. Benjamin in 2004.

The funeral and committal service will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, at the Maryott-Bowen funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda., with Assistant Pastor Tim Geiger of the Assembly of God Church, Towanda, officiating.

Interment will be in Bradford County Memorial Park, Luthers Mills, Pa.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
