Jay was always a man, even as a child, who believed he should take care of his family. He was the first person I ever walked for, not to mention the only one who ever got me to rollerblade. He made sure I knew he would never fail to be there for me and always talked about what we should do to help the next generation of our family. I am sure that now not only is he my daughter's uncle and godfather, but also her guardian angel.

I very much regret learning of Jay's passing. We had a lot of laughs while telling tall tales and trying to stay out of trouble from time to time.... I don't think I ever saw Jay when he wasn't grinning ear to ear. That is how I will remember Jay. My condolences to the Gillum-Powell extended family.
