Clina Hayes Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 17, 2024.
The family of Clina Christopher Hayes announces her peaceful passing on November 13, 2024, in Columbia, South Carolina, at the age of 92. Born on May 22, 1932, in Wellford, South Carolina, Clina was the cherished daughter of John Thomas and Annie Edwards Christopher of the Holly Springs community.

Clina was a devoted member of her church throughout her life, serving as a church secretary and teaching Sunday School for many years. She was known for her humor and dedication, often sharing her biblical insights with others.

Professionally, Clina was a respected Executive Assistant at the U.S. Attorneys' Office in Greenville. She later became the Coordinator of the Office of Victims' Rights for the Federal District of South Carolina, retiring in 1994. Her career was marked by her commitment to justice and service.

Clina had a passion for crocheting, creating numerous afghans for loved ones, and she took pride in making her own clothes.

Her love for travel took her and her husband across the United States and to countries such as India, Turkey, Singapore, and Thailand. In retirement, she continued exploring the world, visiting places like Israel, Italy, and China.

Her greatest joy came from her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the center of her world.

Clina was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 33 years, TSgt. James Earl Hayes (USAF Ret.), and her great-granddaughter, Jayden Hayes.

She leaves behind her three children: James Michael Hayes of Easley, SC, Janyce Hayes Collins (Craig) of Columbia, SC, and Christopher Thomas Hayes (Teresa) of Mauldin, SC, along with nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Presbyterian Communities Foundation in her memory.

Grandma, Clina, was always ready to love on the children, holding them and giving kisses. She had a great sense of humor and a generous heart. We cherished our time with her and we cherish her still.
