Clyde Augsburger Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 8, 2013.
Bluffton Clyde W. Augsburger, 84 of Bluffton passed away April 8, 2013 at the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton surrounded by family who kept a loving vigil at his bedside and begins a celebration of his life and legacy that will continue as long as any of us who knew him remains. Clyde was born in Bluffton on October 2, 1928 to the late Omar and Fannie (Frankhauser) Augsburger. On July 11, 1948 he married Donna McCullough and she survives. Above all, Clyde was a man of integrity. His commitment to family, work and sense of responsibility were evident throughout his life. His children and grandchildren have all been deeply affected by his example. For all of us, he has been a tremendous source of strength and guidance. We will miss his smile and his laughter. He grew up in the Pandora and Bluffton areas, attending the Stratton one-room schoolhouse on the Ewing farm his first and second grades in school. When he graduated from Pandora High School in 1946 he began a lifelong career as a farmer. He raised his family on a farm, working long hours and providing a life of opportunities to teach his children the value of hard work. Clyde enjoyed learning about the history and life of the American Indian and had the uncanny knack of unearthing arrowheads in the fields of his farm. He also enjoyed reading, watching classic western movies and playing euchre. A member of the Mt. Cory United Methodist Church, he had served as its treasurer and was a member of the Friendly Fellowship Class. He also had served on the ASCS committee, was a former member of the Men's Garden Club of Bluffton and was a member of the Ohio Farm Bureau. Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years Donna Augsburger; four children Judy Hamilton of Greenfield, Indiana, Jerry (Shara) Augsburger of Borden, Indiana, James (Wanda) Augsburger of Bowling Green, Ohio; Joan Lieb of Dublin, Ohio; nine grandchildren Matthew Hamilton of Asheville NC, Andrew (Lori) Augsburger of Loxahatchee, FL, Erin (Chad) Zachary of Eustis, FL, Eric Augsburger and Mackenzie Augsburger both of Borden, IN, Carl (Ellie) Augsburger of Cleveland, Crystal Augsburger of Hilliard, Allison Augsburger of Rome, GA, Alex Augsburger of Wheeling, WV, and one great grandchild Cheyenne Augsburger of Loxahatchee, FL. His parents and two brothers LaVern and Kenneth Augsburger preceded him in death. Services will be held 11:00 am Friday at Chiles-Laman Funeral and Cremation Services, Bluffton. Rev. Jerry Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Clymer Cemetery near Mt. Cory. Family and friends may call Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the funeral home. The family invites friends and family to consider donations to the Mt. Cory United Methodist Church, Mennonite Memorial Home or Bridge Hospice where Clyde and his family received such kind and excellent care during his final days.

I am so sorry to hear about Clyde passing away. I can remember we use to stop every summer and buy corn and melons off of him. He use to find baby melons for me to take home. I remember visiting with my parents. He will be missed.

Uncle Clyde I wanted to thank you for being a great person and for teaching me many things as I was growing up. I hope that you will be in peace and be reunited with my father in heaven. God Bless you.
