Clyde Raisley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 4, 2013.
Clyde Lester Raisley of Greeley, died Sunday, September 1, 2013, at Grace Pointe. Clyde was born on January 13th, 1921 in Butler Pennsylvania to Clair and Bessie Raisley. He was the second oldest of nine children.

Clyde graduated from high school in Butler, PA and when he was 20 years old he moved across the country to Denver, Colorado where he enlisted January 28, 1941 into the Army Air Corp. He met the love of his life, Connie Morris, and nine months later on October 3rd, 1942, they were married at the Chapel on Lowry Air Force Base. He served four years and eight months in the military and they traveled the country together; Boca Raton, Florida, Greensburg, North Carolina, and when he was stationed in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma they had their first of four children. He was then shipped out overseas to Panama and then Galapagos Islands. He was discharged when he went back to the U.S. on October 15,1945. He went in as a private and at the end was a staff sergeant; he was a flight engineer, crew chief, and flew every bomber the Air Corp had up to the B-29. He was a very proud WWII Veteran.

After being honorably discharged he worked for the U.S. Postal Service with 38 years of service. After he retired in 1979, he and his wife spent many years traveling and making many good friends and memories, including spending the winter months in Mesa, A.Z. for over 20 years. Clyde and Connie made family priority and created many traditions that are still followed out today. He was an avid hunter and founded "his" hunting country in the early 1950's where his family still hunts today.

Clyde knew no stranger and always made sure to find out who you were, where you came from and who you might be related to. He was a very loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Connie Raisley, and three children, Jerry Raisley of Windsor, Tom Raisley of Greeley, Pam (Chris) Erbacher of Greeley, 22 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers; Lawrence, Orville, Ralph, Glenn, Marion, Lynn, and Wayne, and one sister; Dorothy Hall, son Dan Raisley, daughter-in-law Debbie Raisley, granddaughter Stacy Raisley and great-granddaughter Shania Fosher.

Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 5, 2013 at Stoddard Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 6, 2013 at First Congregational Church. Interment Sunset Memorial Gardens.
