Clyde Thompson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from May 11 to May 13, 2018.
Clyde Jacob Thompson, Jr., age 91, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on May 9, 2018. Funeral services will be held at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, Louisiana, 70124 at 11am on Monday, May 14, 2018. A visitation will begin at 9am until service time. Interment will follow at All Saints Mausolem. Mr. Thompson was born on February 23, 1927 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Clyde Jacob Thompson, Sr. and Myrtle Hogan Thompson. On September 30, 1950, he married his love, Barbara Ann Powell, and together they had seven children. He attended St. Matthias and St. Aloysius High. He worked for New Orleans Public Service, Inc. for almost 40 years and retired in 1987. Always a dedicated parishioner and selfless volunteer of St. Mary Magdalen Church for over 60 years, he was awarded the Order of St. Louis Medal by Archbishop Hannan in 2006. For many years, he was a member of the Holy Name Society, volunteer at East Jefferson General Hospital and with his wife, Barbara, enjoyed square dancing at the Bar None Ranch and camping with the Dixie Wheelers. Mr. Thompson loved life, always had a smile on his face and a joke on his lips…always there to brighten the lives of family and strangers alike. His family was his pride and joy, and the legacy of his kind spirit and zest for life will live on through them. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Barbara Thompson (nee Powell); his children, Michael C. Thompson (Vanessa), Daniel L. Thompson (Claudia), William B. Thompson (Colleen), Ellen T. Fridge (Johnny), Brian P. Thompson (Eileen), Julie T. Kyle (Billy), Margie T. Russo (Danny), 20 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, brother, Ronald J. Thompson and sister, Elizabeth T. Davis. He is preceded in death by sisters, Shirley T. Camarata and Dorothy T. Redditt and grand-daughter, Kristen T. Miller. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to St. Mary Magdalen Church or Children's Hospital New Orleans. Margie -
I am so sorry! My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time. I remember your sweet and funny dad from going to your house during our college years! He was always such a joy to be around!! I know how much you will miss him...but he will always be with you - not just in your memories but in your heart. Take care, my friend.

Family: We were saddened by your Dad's passing. All the Brennans near & far send our love & prayers. A few years ago, Carolyn & I saw Clyde and Barbara at SMM and I asked how many grands and greats they had: he answered "I'm no accountant!"
With Love Roy & Carolyn

Lord I ask that you be with the Thompson family during this time. I also would like to Thank You for allowing our paths to cross. I truly enjoyed caring for Mr. Cylde and loved his sense of humor. He always had a smile on his face that would brighten your day. So until we meet again rest in peace.
