RULOFF, Colin Scott
Colin Scott Ruloff of Bowen Island, BC, passed away on April 24, 2018 in a tragic motorcycle accident. Colin was raised on Bowen Island where he lived with his parents Walt and Laura Ruloff and three younger brothers, Chad, Andrew and Charlie. He attended Bowen Island Community School, Island Pacific School, Dwight International School, and graduated from West Vancouver Secondary School. He excelled in Art, Philosophy and English, was on the swim team and was a student coach for the Ultimate Frisbee team. After high school Colin studied at Emily Carr University for a short time before leaving school to pursue music, travel and expand his horizons. He went on a five-month road trip to New Orleans and the southern United States. He lived in Montreal for a year before fulfilling a dream of hitchhiking alone across Canada; he wanted to see and experience the country and its people in a new way. He then travelled to France with his brother before returning to Bowen Island where he worked at GILT Studio creating paintings of animals for a new animal hospital in North Vancouver. He recently joined a Morris Dance group The Black Sheep. Colin loved music. He composed original songs and performed as a Country Blues singer and guitar player under the name Scottie Collins. Colin had planned to go tree planting with friends this summer before moving to Halifax to immerse himself in Acadian music and to study at Dalhousie University. He was gentle, kind, and able to see good and admirable qualities in everyone he met. He will be greatly missed by his family, many friends, and the community of Bowen Island.
