Martha Hunter Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 22, 2006.
What greater legacy could one have than that being a dedicated mother, an independent, productive lifelong worker, and a believer in always "doing the right thing"?
Martha Moore Hunter, born July 18, 1920, died Friday, Oct. 20, 2006, at St. Vincent Healthcare, following a brief illness.
Martha was the daughter of Virginian parents, Tucker and Mary, who homesteaded in Culbertson, where Martha was born and raised. After graduation in 1937, Martha worked for Tanner and Best, a general merchandise company. She married Don Hunter, July 27, 1941. They made their home largely in northeastern Montana, where Don was Roosevelt County Extension Agent; they jointly owned and managed the Lyric Theatre.
In 1966, Don and Martha moved to Billings, where Don served as Area Resource Development Specialist. Following his untimely death in 1968, Martha re-entered the workforce: Hartford Insurance Claims, Commercial Union and Peter Yegen Jr. Insurance Agency. She retired in January 1995.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Don. She is survived by three daughters, Donna Doughty (Bob), Leah McCracken (Joe) and Peggy Hunter; two grandchildren, Don (Barbara) and Kent (Kami) Doughty; four great-grandchildren, Deven, Emily, Quincy and Grant.
Martha is a member of Grace United Methodist Church, where she served as financial recording secretary for a time. She was always ready for a game of Bridge or challenging a crossword puzzle.
Services will be held at Grace United Methodist Church, 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 23; a lunch will be served following the service.

We are sorry for your loss Donna, Peggy, Leah & Joe.

It is one of life's sad experiences
for those left behind.
It's the good memories of the past
on which we have
to help see us through these times - -

that's why God gives us a memory.

Donna, Leah, and Peggy,
Memories of long ago - remember the Shetland pony? Your mother had a long, wonderful life. Treasure the memories.

Leah & Joe,

My thoughts and prayers are with you. I so enjoyed my contacts with Martha ... she was truly a "class act".

Martha came into my life when my Dad married her sister, Drucilla. She became an Aunt to me and lived next door. Martha was always interested in my life, and we spent many fun times discussing High School activities, friends, etc. She always had time for me, and when Drucilla passed away, she was there to comfort me. She was my "Mother" when I got married, helping me to make all the arrangements of my wedding.
After we moved away she continued to be a part of my life at Christmas, Birthdays, birth of our two sons, and just always there to share a cheerful thought.
This past winter she kept in touch as I went through Chemo and always had a cheerful, upbeat thought.
I will miss her deeply.

My sympathies to the Hunter family. I have very pleasant memories of Mrs Hunter at the theater in Culbertson every Friday night when I was a child growing up. She was truly a lady who watched out for all of us.
