I just heard of Dr. Furay's passing today via my high school alumni newsletter (I went to Cor Jesu Academy.) He taught Popular Culture my freshman year at Webster in '86, bringing a fun and positive energy to the class. I will always remember him for the wonderful impact he made on my academic career.

My precious Jean, You have been so strong for your Conal and your family. You will continue to be your graceful tender self while you miss him.

My son will meet him and show him the "ropes" in heaven.

My love and prayers to you, Maureen Connerty Krause, Mundelein

Dear Mrs. Furay and the whole Furay Clan,

I am so sorry to hear of your husband/father's passing. At least Clare has some company now. I can picture both of them next to each other reading a big, fat book... happy and content. Or cheering on the Irish with the best seats in the house!!

Prayers and Hugs Always,

I have known & admired Conal for a long, long time. We took a trip together to Colorado...so long ago it was B.C. ...before children..before marriage. He was teaching at Duchesne at the time. I always looked forward to seeing him when he came to Aksarben each summer. A real gentleman. Bruce Haney

Dear Jean and family,

You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Conal was certainly an individual who could make a conversation stimulating and thought provoking. He was a good man and I was blessed to have known him and your wonderful family. Suzy and I share in your grief and will be with you in spirit as you celebrate his life.

Way back in the dark ages (before Electronics) Conal saved my sanity....I was in the hospital, in traction for six months. Conal brought me music; a battered little brown phonograph and a stack of records. He was leaving town. I think going to St Louis; to find the love of his life and I think he was wearing plaid pants. Love and prayers for each of you. Sandy

Dr. Furay and I met in the mid-70s when I was a student at Webster. I did not have the opportunity to take a class from him, but I got to know him through some of the other history professors - Lynn Kelly, Alice Cochran, and Neil George -- and our conversations were such fun! I will keep him, and his wonderful family in my prayers.

Dear Jean and all the Furays,

So sorry to hear about your loss. Conal was a great dad during my years at Holy Redeemer. He wanted nothing but the best for each of you.
May he rest in the arms of God.

Conal was my godfather and as a little girl I adored him. I was especially enthralled when I was 10 and he brought the elegant Jean Purcell to Omaha to meet his family. I thought she was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen. What a wonderful life you created together! I'll miss you, Conal.

Mike Loeffler and his family send our condolences. Conal was an amazing and interesting person - a person I enjoyed talking with very much. When I talked with him - often just before he went up to his room at the Lindsay house - the one thing I remember is that Conal could express his enormous love for his family with just the twinkle of his eye. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

I feel particularly blessed to have known Mr. Furay and I feel fortunate that both of my girls got to meet him too. What a terrific father and person. I'll never forget being 8 or 9 years old and being quizzed (in front of the entire family) on the birth order of all Furays.

Con was old school and he was class. Class is not aristocracy or money; a coalminer can have more class in his pinky than a king in his castle. Class is devotion and knowing right from wrong - and doing right. Con did that! Thank God for Conal touching our lives and God's grace on Jean and the kids.

I never had the honor of persoanlly meeting the Professor, however I have had the privilege of knowing his daughter, Julia who always held him in the highest regard and I got to know a little bit about who he was through her stories. I'm so glad to have met his wife and several other of his children, Carrie, Suzanne and Elizabeth and I'm hopeful to
meet the rest of the clan (Alice, Guy, Ann and Mary). My thoughts and prayers go out to the Furay family. I'm sure Dr. Furay's legacy will live on for many generations to come.
