Connie Collison

Connie Collison, 68, of Onawa, Iowa, died Friday, August 12, 2016 at her home. Graveside services will be held 10:00 A.M. Monday, August 15, 2016 at the Onawa Cemetery, Onawa, Iowa, with Pastor Dennis Burns officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa. Connie was born August 7, 1948 in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Winston and Donna (Godsey) Koenig. She grew up on a farm in rural Monona County near Sloan, Iowa, and graduated from Westwood High School in 1966. She attended nurse's training and earned her LPN license. Connie and Paul Alfred Collison were united in marriage on July 24, 1969 at the Mission Covenant Church in rural Sloan. To this union, two children were born, Jennifer and Jon Paul. The couple made their home in rural Onawa. She began her career in nursing in Sioux City before working for Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa, Iowa. She worked as a potter's assistant to Jerry Kessler for many years. She served Meals on Wheels for the senior center in Onawa. Most recently, she worked as on call support staff for Premier Estates in Onawa. Connie enjoyed many artistic hobbies, especially embroidery. She entered many of her pieces in the county and state fairs, and won several blue ribbons. She was a true caregiver, and took care of many people throughout her life. She was a longtime member of the Sioux City Chapter of the Embroidery Guild of America. She attended the United Methodist Church of Onawa and was baptized in the Jordan River near Galilee, Israel in March 2016. Survivors include her children, Jennifer Collison of Omaha, NE and Jon Paul (Leslie) Collison of Bakersfield, CA; her mother, Donna Koenig of Onawa, IA; two brothers, Mark Koenig of Colorado and Curt (Lisa) Koenig of Sloan, IA; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Paul Collison; her father, Winston Koenig; a sister, Christine Beauperthuy; her parents-in-law, Alfred and Pauline Collison; and numerous other relatives.
