Connie Schreckengast Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 15 to Mar. 17, 2024.
Fort Collins - Connie Schreckengast, a cherished wife, mother, Grammy, daughter, and sister, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2024, at Poudre Valley Hospital, concluding a nearly two-year, harrowing fight against ALK-positive lung cancer. Born Connie Luck on February 22, 1963, at Home Hospital in Lafayette, Indiana, to Kenneth Virgil Luck and Myrna Jane (Norman) Luck, she lived a life filled with love, dedication, and warmth.

Connie's beautiful love story with Jim began in Lafayette, Indiana, where they first met while he was attending Purdue University, and she was working at Zales Jewelers as a salesperson and bookkeeper. Their love story, filled with joy and laughter, blossomed over four years, culminating in their marriage at Congress Street Methodist Church in Lafayette on June 1, 1985. Shortly after their union, the couple moved to Colorado Springs, where Jim embarked on his career with Hewlett-Packard and Connie shared her culinary talents as a baker at a local delicatessen. In 1992, with their daughters Vanessa Schreckengast and Paige Schreckengast, they moved to Fort Collins, a community that quickly became home.

In Fort Collins, Connie's passion for helping and nurturing others led her to Olander Elementary School, where she began as a volunteer and was eventually employed as a beloved kindergarten paraprofessional for over 24 years, known by children as "Mrs. S." Her kindness, patience, and dedication to her students left a lasting impact on many young lives, embodying her commitment to making the world a better place.

Connie is lovingly remembered by her husband, Jim; daughters Vanessa (Jeremy) and Paige (Ken); grandchildren Milo, Madison, and Henry; expectant grandchildren; her mother, Myrna Jane Birky; stepfather Larry; sister Pam; nieces Erica and Kendra; and a host of family members and close friends who deeply cherished her.

Visitation will be from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM on Thursday, March 21st, at Goes Funeral Care, 3665 Canal Drive, Suite E, Fort Collins, CO 80524. Please visit her obituary page at https://www.goesfuneralcare.com/obituaries/Connie-Schreckengast/#!/TributeWall for details of the funeral service, which will occur on Friday, March 22nd, and her celebration of life on Saturday, March 23rd, where friends and family are invited to gather, eat, drink, share memories, and honor her legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to www.alkpositive.org which continues to research and find new treatments for the horrific cancer that took Connie from us too soon.

Connie's legacy is one of unwavering love, loyalty, compassion, selfless dedication, and the profound impact she had on every life she touched. Her spirit, warmth, and generosity will be deeply missed but forever remembered and cherished by those fortunate enough to have known her.
