Constance DEFALCO-BLANCHETTE Obituary

Published by Ottawa Citizen from Dec. 5 to Dec. 7, 2011.
DEFALCO-BLANCHETTE, Constance
(Connie) Anne
It is with saddened hearts that we say goodbye to our dearest Connie, a beautiful, spirited and loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, friend, who passed away peacefully at home early Saturday morning December 3, 2011 surrounded by family after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Always embracing life to the fullest, Connie will be forever missed by all of us fortunate enough to be touched by her beauty inside and out, her friendship, her fun-loving nature and compassion. She leaves a huge hole in all those who loved her and supported her.
Devoted husband, Raymond Blanchette, cared for her throughout her difficult journey, compassionately supported by her abundance of close friends and the wonderful souls from the palliative care team. Special thanks to Dr. Lisa Cross and the many nurses from Bayshore Home Health and At Home Hospice.
Born in Churchill, Manitoba on August 24, 1954, Connie lived most of her life in Ottawa. She charged at life, marrying at 17 and having two children, Jason and Christopher Moore. She worked in sales and office roles then studied journalism at Algonquin College, joining the Ottawa Citizen in 1989, where she worked in the newsroom as a copy editor and page designer alongside her sister Jane Defalco (Ayres) for many years.
Connie shed the struggles of illness to join the loving embrace of her late son, Christopher Moore, who left her at the tender age of 13, and her late mother Aline Defalco, father, Steve Defalco (Barbara Laidley), and brother, Gerald Defalco. She was also reunited with best friend, the late Sue Mullen.
She is survived by her husband Raymond, son Jason Moore (Angela Martin), and 2 grandsons, Christopher and Lucas, special brother in law Gilles Blanchette and André; many siblings, their spouses and several nieces and nephews: Susan Defalco (Martin Donovan and Sean Purcell); Steven Defalco (Lucie Bedard, Catherine and Nicholas Defalco); Sandra Comer (the late Jerry Defalco, Dylan and Connor Defalco); Thomas Defalco (Cynthia McDonald, Alex and Hannah Defalco); Jane Ayres (Tim Ayres, Graham and Evan Camm); Nancy Bailey (Brian Bailey, Andrew and Jennifer Reoch); Mary Defalco (Jessica and Emily Defalco) and Timothy Defalco, (Darlene Gagnon, Caitlyn and Robyn Defalco) as well as her half brother Matthew Defalco and step brother Jeffrey Friend.
Friends may call at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Road (between Bayshore and Baseline Road) on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9p.m. A memorial service will be held in the chapel on Wednesday at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of choice. Condolences, tributes or donations may be made at www.tubmanfuneralhomes.com

This is so sad. Not three days ago, Connie's fellow Algonquin Journalism classmate Morgan Quarry and I were talking about how our Class of 1990 should have a reunion. Very sad news coupled with very find memories.

My condolences to her family and friends.
I will always remember that huge smile beaming and the way she would breeze into a conversation. The flourish and style. The laugh...it was such a warm, full, life-loving laugh. As a fellow j-school grad the fond memories of Connie are many. Her spirit will never be far and her laugh will long echo in my ears. Connie, thank you.

Just learned of this sad news. My deepest sympathies to Ray, Jane and the the extended group of family and friends. I have many fond memories of Connie from Algonquin College and The Citizen. Actually, the last time I saw her was on a warm summer day on the patio at Whispers with Ray. She will be missed. May her soul rest in peace. God bless.

We never had a contest in the Citizen newsroom for biggest, broadest smile and heartiest laugh. But if we had, Connie would have won, hands down. That beautiful smile told you exactly who and what she was, a vibrant woman with an enormous enthusiasm for life. She left far too soon. My condolences to the family.

Dear Ray, Jason, Jane and all of Connie's family, I am so sorry to hear of her passing.
I remember her as vivacious, kind and supportive.
She was also lots of fun, with a wicked sense of humour.
Sending best wishes to the Defalco-Blanchette family.

Ray, Jason, Jane and all of Connie's family:
Hers was a bright light that dimmed way too soon. I remember her as always being full of life and ever there to help pick others back up when they were down. I'll miss her beaming smile, hearty laugh and sense of adventure. And I'll always remember her as Robert Palmer, singing Addicted to Love in the media air band contest. With deepest sympathy. Connie was a beautiful person who was always interested in beauty. I remember that whenever I wrote about beauty treatments in my special advertising features at the Citizen, she'd come up to me in the hall with questions about what the treatment cost, how long it worked, how it felt. She was always eager and curious. She was a special person, and I send my condolences to her caring family and friends.
