Constance Gullett Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 30, 2025.
Constance Faye Gullett, affectionately known as "Connie", was born on February 22nd, 1949 in Chicago, Illinois. Her birth would be one of 12 blessed children born to her parents, the late Nathan and Ethel Gullett.

Connie graduated from Froebel High School in 1967. She went on to seek a certificate in Office Administration and shortly there after, offering the Gary Community Schools and Lincoln Elementary in particular, almost 30 years of professional administrative services.

Connie met and married Raymond Saunders Sr. in 1973. To this union, they were blessed with a son, Raymond Daniel Saunders Jr. The family traveled to Italy where many of her fondest memories were made as she was introduced to many European cultures, arts and dances. Dancing became her passion. She fell in love with watching ballerinas dance. Not only was it a passion of hers to watch girls dancing, Connie wanted to see black girls dance.

Upon moving back to the United States and going through many of life's transitions, Connie was determined to bring dancing back to Gary. It was personal. It was her purpose. Her talent was showcased throughout The Gary Community Schools System. Many schools and local organizations sought out for Connie to be their choreographer. "Reflections... A Touch of Charm" was born. This choreography business is where Connie taught many students how to dance with pizzazz, poise and grace.

Connie would make local newspapers; gaining much popularity as she would host many events throughout Northwest Indiana and Chicagoland areas. Connie taught some of the first ever given steppers classes. And fashion shows? Oh the fashion shows; brought by Connie named, "For Every Physique, There Is A Fashion" was the talk of the town. Praise dancing became her full-time enjoyment. Her unique moves were all skills mastered with a taste of class. Her students were always filled with admirations for such an instructor. Many of her students recall Connie giving them the "confidence" and "self-esteem to feel beautiful" and appreciated her for providing them with dancing memories.

Connie went on to dance with grace, love and praise all the way to heaven on April 17th, 2025. She was welcomed by her parents, Nathan & Ethel Gullett; sisters, Yvette Gullett-Dabney, Patricia Gullett, Jeanie Gullett-Blevins, and Natalie Gullett-Nelson; brothers, Patrick Gullett and Nathan Gullett Jr.; and brother-in-law, Rick Haskins. She leaves her legacy and memories to last forever to her only loving son, Raymond (LaTanya) Saunders, grandchildren, Jhazmyne, Raymond III, Charae, Yvette, Jamie, and Jamir; 2 great-grandchildren, Brayden and Levi; sisters, Ardis Holmes, Rosiland Marzette, and Georgie Haskins; brothers, David (Alma) Gullett and Joel (Margaret) Gullett; a host of loving nieces and nephews, family and friends.

Viewing and service will be held service will be held Saturday, May 3rd, 2025 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church 719 W. 25th Avenue Gary, Indiana 46407. Viewing 9:00AM-11:00AM with service immediately at 11:00AM. She will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery. Condolences can be emailed to [email protected]

To Connie Family you have my deepest sympathy in the death but heaven gain of your loved one. Connie sister Natalie was a dear friend and classmate of mine class of 68 and Connie and my sister graduated together. I never met Connie without a smile on her face and we had some funny conversation. I pray in the days ahead God grants each of you peace and comfort. Froebel chain has been broken once again by death not the love we have for our Classmates. Connie will now receive what she strived so hard for Eternal life. Praying with and for you in the days ahead.
