Taki led a group of 7 of us from Ohio universities and NASA Glenn that resulted in the Ohio Aerospace Institute located next to Cleveland International Airport. I have been on many committees, but none was led by such a fantastic leader. I have followed his career since he joined Drexel, but did not know of his death. The world and his family will surely miss him, I know I will.

My deepest condolences to Coni’s family and it indeed a loss to the world. I cannot believe that he went away from this world. A great man and he can never be forgotten. I was one of his students at the University of Michigan and a colleague at Bechtel. He was not only a great teacher but he was very personable too. He respected everyone around him. I will never forge the day when he came up with a brilliant idea to solve a problem that one of our clients raised in a meeting. He convinced the client that his idea was simple and can be executed successfully and the client bought that and approved the required funding to resolve the issue.

I have never seen anyone like Coni that can spend 16 to 20 hours a day and still come to work looking fresh! He was alleyways friendly was able to make subtle jokes. He was a very high achiever.

The last time I talk to him was during late 2008 and he did not open up the way he used to and I was not aware of the medical issues that he was undergoing at that time. He was very proud of his daughter and was telling me about her achievements. I am one his admirers and I was blessed to have met him in my life.

Once again, I would like to offer my heartfelt sympathies to his family.

Although I worked with Dr. Papadakis only a short time when he was Dean of Engineering at the University of Cincinnati, I have great memories of his dedication and concern for the students' education. I was very happy for him when he became President of Drexel and knew they were getting a gem. When I checked today to see if he was still president, I was saddened by the sight of a memorial page for him. The school was blessed to have had such a dedicated visionary.

My sincere condolences to Dr. Papadakis's family and the Drexel University community. Dr. Papadakis infused the University culture with much energy and direction. I was a graduate student during his early days at the University (95/96) - Dr. Taki's passionate personality changed the atmosphere and future of DU.

He was a mentor and a friend while I earned my first two degrees at the University of Cincinnati, and then I went up to Michigan for my PhD and ended up being placed in his old office for two and a half years. I was so surprised at the similarity of our academic paths. I still have a signed copy of his doctoral thesis that I found in an Ann Arbor bookstore.

He was a great friend and advisor and his passing stunned and saddened me. He sent my wife and I a very nice card when we were married 16 years ago. Too young, just too young.

My deepest sympathies to his friends and family.

Dear Dr. Taki, I am glad you accomplished your goals at Drexel I know of one day after you acquired the medical school, I remarked(along with others), "All you need is a law school" and you said that may be next. We all had a little chuckle, but you did get a law school. You are a force of nature Sir. You knew what had to be done and you did it. We need more men in this world like you. I remember at one Holiday Party I brought my whole family. My Mom especially liked that family was included and felt at home. She enjoyed meeting your family. It was then I knew that there must be an incredible amount of Faith in you, that Family, Friends and Responsibility were indeed so very important. I knew you are at rest and eternal peace. Your Family is in my prayers.

I still find it difficult to think he isn't here, but times when I am searching I find his strength is near; although I never knew him well I learned much of him thru Bry, who Dr. P inspired with his actions & gestures that implied... 'good work', 'thank you', a smile so great .... his strong presence will always be a part of our fate.

It has been almost two months since Takis Papadakis left us... We knew he was sick but deep in our heart we all hoped he would win this one as he had won everything else before.

I first met Takis at the National Technical University of Athens where we were both undergraduates, he two years older than me and in civil engineering, I in chemical engineering. I got to meet him better in 1989 when he tried to recruit me at Cincinnati when he was the Dean of Engineering. He impressed me as a great leader then and although I did not follow him to Cincinnati my impression about him lasted the rest of our lives.

After he joined Drexel University he transformed the place into a first rate "total University" in the style of the humanistic academic institutions that he so much loved. Here was an engineer fighting for a Medical School! Here was an engineer fighting for a Law School! Here was an engineer fighting for better Humanities! And here was a great engineer fighting for a College of Engineering with world renown research and leaders...

And he succeeded! His legacy will live for decades. He is the only true successor of Anthony Drexel, the great benefactor of Drexel University.

Takis was also a great friend of the land that brought him to life. He remained a great supporter of Greece and Greek causes as well the Greek Archdiocese of the United States where he was a major benefactor, an archon.

Dear Eliana and Maria, I share in your loss and mourning. The whole academic community does... Takis was a great man and your loss is our loss.

I am praying for Dr. Papadakis's family and the extended family at Drexel University. As a Hahnemann University School of Medicine alumnus, I was proud to see the medical school live on so vibrantly through his efforts. Every place that any graduate from the medical school practices should therefore be a living memoriam to his vision.

It has been such a pleasure to see and hear about the ever-unfolding changes Dr. Papadakis was achieving through Drexel University, both on brick and mortar campuses and through online education resources. I did not sign in earlier because I did not know what to say. I was deeply saddened by the loss of so dynamic an individual, but I did not know how to express it. I think I do now, however inadequate this may be.

I am a Drexel faculty member and administrator and I have been associated with Drexel since I arrived in 1984. Thus, I have seen the University in many lights and in many situations. No light was so bright as that created by Dr. Papadakis. His light shown everywhere and illuminated everything. He brought character and confidence to an institution that sorely needed it.

There is an old theory about the nature of life called vital force. This force was supposed to be unique to living things and was so special as to allow life to exist as separate from other physical matter. In a very real way, Dr. Papadakis was Drexel University's vital force. He gave Drexel life and we are all diminished by his passing.

My deepest apology and utmost sympathy to the Papadakis family. He truly was a great leader and such an asset to the Drexel community. He had helped me continue my second year at Drexel when there was a financial aid issue that was to leave me stranded the week prior to which I was going to make the cross country drive. I regret not having the opportunity to thank him personally for all that he did to assist in one of the best years of my life thus far.

I remember when I was a freshman, Dr. Papadakis sat down with us in the cafeteria just to talk. I was impressed that the President of Drexel wanted to speak with us and hear what we had to say about our time here. He really cared about the students and Drexel. I want to extend my condolences to his wife and daughter. He was a great man who really did have his students in mind.

He was so kind to me and to our organization when we premiered our Greek American documentary "The Pioneers" @ Drexel University. Dr. Papadakis went above and beyond to organize with his staff a wonderful evening. I will never forget his kindness and dedication in promoting Hellenism. We were and are so proud to have known such a wonderful man. He was one of a kind.

Dear Eliana and Maria: You have my deepest condolences. I am a 1973 electrical engineering graduate who was inspired by the fact that Taki was also an engineer and knew how to get things done. His accomplishments at Drexel are a tribute to that capability. We were also close in age so I used his energy as a barometer and refused to become complacent. I had the pleasure of getting to know him and supporting him through the Drexel University Alumni of Greater Los Angeles. You are fortunate to have so many great memories to share with future generations.

My condolences to the Papadakis Family. Thank you for sharing him with us, both Drexel University and the greater Philadelphia area. Since my graduation in '93, my life events have moved me on to Michigan, however, I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Papadakis at an alumni event in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I was awed by all he had accomplished for Drexel. He will be greatly missed. In Sympathy,

I graduated from Drexel in 1981, and my oldest son is looking forward to matriculating this year. For the last decade, I have been in awe of what President Papadakis has accomplished for Drexel, and I am shocked to hear of his passing. I just wanted to thank him for taking an already great school and elevating it even further. Unfortunately, I never got to meet him, but I will always look up to him as a great man for what he has done for my alma mater.

I was on the Alumni Association committee that was helping to screen the candidates for the next president of Drexel. We met them in the faculty dining room. We had already met with a couple of the candidates at earlier meetings and were not (to my recollection) too impressed. We were awaiting the arrival of a Dr. Papadakis and I remember not even facing the entrance to the room when all of a sudden a FORCE entered. I turned to look, as did everyone else, and then Taki took over! I knew at that moment we had found our next president. Please know Eliana and Maria that your loss is the world's as well...Unfortunately for us God needed him for some project and, well, who can deny Him?
God bless,

Dear Eliana and Maria:
I am blessed to have worked very closely with Taki during his first five years at Drexel. Our daughter, Meghan, was five years old when Taki joined Drexel. She currently is a Drexel freshman in the Design and Merchandising program. Shortly after Taki’s death she sent me the following letter:

Dear Dad,

I’m not really sure what to say. Since I’m not there, I don’t really know how you have been taking the whole thing with Taki’s passing. What I do know was that Taki was a great man with a big heart for the people in his life and his school, just like you. That’s why I think you were such good friends and colleagues.
I will admit this whole thing took me by surprise and when people bring it up I get a little choked up. I think back to this past Summer Program when you and I stopped by his office to say “hi”. He was so warm and friendly and now that vibrant and lively person no longer sits in the President’s office. I know in general I’m an emotional person, but I feel a lot of sorrow and grief for the whole situation. And it seems like everywhere you turn on campus lately there is a reminder of it.
I wish I could be there to give you a hug because I am so sorry, Dad, this happened to such a great man. I feel that his open mindedness has helped you and you are such a fortunate person for getting to work with him. He was equally as lucky for getting to work with you. You two, from what I remember, made a great team and were a huge part of why Drexel is where it is today.
Dad, I truly miss you and again I’m sorry for your shared loss. I have collected all of the articles that have been printed regarding Taki. I’m sending them so you may have them.

Love,
Meghan Carleen Hamme

Taki was thought of and spoken of frequently in our home. He will not be forgotten.

I joined Drexel University as a graduate student in the fall of 1994. I graduated from the university in June 1996. During this short period of time the university was on the cusp of some very significant changes, and Dr. Papadakis was instrumental in effecting these changes.
The changes made by Dr. Papadakis over the last 13 to 14 years has afforded us the opportunity, past and present students, to feel good and proud of our university.
On behalf of my family and I, we wish the Papadakis family our sincerest condolences.

It is with deepest regret and heartfelt sorrow that we learn of the death of Dr. Constantine "Taki" Papadakis - under whose leadership and direction, Drexel University prospered and continued to blossom on a national and worldwide scale . A gentle giant among University CEO's and Presidents, as well as friend, scholar, educator and leader: his extraordinary achitectural and future visionary undertakings at Drexel are legion and his accomplishments have been outstanding and unsurpassed, leaving a legacy from which many will draw upon in the future. Rest easy now Taki, and enjoy the fruits of your labor. It is quite obvious to us that God needs you now on His Board of Directors - until we meet again, our loss is His gain. God Bless you, Eliana and Maria.

President Papadakis is a leader like few others. He was truly a president of his people, his alumni, faculty, students, staff, and administrators, and every person who cared about Drexel University. His vision, energy, drive, commitment, loyalty, and his passion inspired everyone who he touched or came in contact with. He saw in Drexel what founder Anthony J. Drexel did, an institution of higher learning like no other. He was removed from the Drexel "family" much too soon. Our prayers are with his family.

I'm sure we will all do our best to make Drexel the Univesity that he envisioned and worked every do towards.

I knew Dr. Papadakis over the years through the Greek Community. He was always a very loving and approachable man with great vision. We will all miss him and all that he had to give to this world. May his memory be eternal!

I am so heartbroken over the loss of this great man. I have admired him for so many years and was looking forward to hearing him speak at graduation.

Thanks, Taki, for making Drexel a school to be proud of. Your contributions to DU are numerous and wonderful, but the greatest lesson I have learned from you is that we must take action to bridge the gap between our dreams and reality. God bless you & your family.

Eliana and Maria,
When you think of Taki you remember a strong man whose broad smile would energize a room when he entered it. The world has lost a unique individual, and we have lost our friend. We will always treasure the time me spent with you and Taki when you lived in Ann Arbor, and always know how
proud we were of him and all of his accomplishments.
May his memory be eternal.
Our love always

What I was 16, 10 years ago, I went on a family vacation to Jamaica. While there I met a fantastic young woman named Maria. Maria's father, President Papadakis welcomed me, a stanger into their family, bought me meals, and took me parasailing for my first and only time ever. He was a truly selfless and giving man and I will never forget his shear joy of making his daughter happy. Two years later, when searching for University, I found Drexel University with President Papadakis, and now I am a two time Drexel Graduate with a BS in psychology and a BS in Nursing. I will truly miss Mr. Papdakis, and I am so grateful to him.

To Mrs Papadakis, Maria and the Drexel Community:
I had the privilege of meeting Dr. Papadakis at dinner when I attended my 25th anniversary dinner at Drexel in May of 2006. HE was so gracious as he made the rounds that evening and spoke to each and every one of us there. I have read with interest and pride about the strides Drexel has made during his tenure. It was shocking to learn of his death only days after it was announced that he was going to take a leave of absence. We will not see his like again and I hope that Drexel continues to build on the groundwork laid by this
dynamic gentleman.
With sympathy and prayers for all and pride in being a Drexel
alunma.
Sincerely,
Teresa Calabrese Cartularo, MSLS, Class of '81.

Constantine Papadakis was a force in Philadelphia and throughout the world. His vision, coupled with an undying passion for his work and gregarious optimism, promoted the kind of dynamism and inspirational growth of the most unique caliber - the kind most needed in the city of Philadelphia, and around the world.

In transforming Drexel, he transformed a huge part of Philadelphia and touched so many lives. His accomplishments, and most of all, the way he lived his life, will continue to be an inspiration to me and to countless people around the world. His legacy will live on through his influence.

As a friend of Dr. Papadakis' daughter Maria, I am deeply saddened by this loss. He was not just her father, but her hero, mentor, and best friend. Over the past year, Maria and her mom have endured something none of us can imagine - all the while, holding it all together for the man they loved.

Yet, through the pain and suffering I am optimistic. The world will be touched by Maria's talent, compassion, and love for life - and may be comforted knowing that she will carry her father's essence with her every step of the way.

Mrs. Papadakis and Maria, my thoughts and prayers are with you. I will always remember Taki for his drive and perseverance. He was a great leader; yet he always made time to say hello to the least important of us, and ask how we were doing. I will miss his presence around Drexel, but never forget the example of great leadership that he set for us. God be with you and your family.

As the former coordinator of the Lunch With A Leader Online Auction™ for Communities In Schools, Inc. I will always remember the warmth and enthusiasm with which Dr. Papadakis contributed his time to benefit the students enrolled in the Communities In Schools of Philadelphia, Inc. program. The warmth in his smile and the gracious hospitality he showed towards me and his auctions winners shall always be remembered. May the Papadakis family find comfort in knowing that his legacy of educational excellence and community service will live on in all who had the pleasure of his company or the privilege of attending Drexel University.

I am the parent of a Drexel student. In my son's first year I wrote a letter to Dr. P. about a problem. It was a serious problem, but one most other Universities and their Presidents would have ignored or blamed on my son. Dr. P took my letter seriously, had someone examine the issue seriously, and had Drexel accept part of the blame for the problem. He also authorized that Drexel contribute to the solution. Five years later my son graduated with several honors. In part, that was because Dr. P. cared enough to take a parent's letter seriously. I am most grateful yo him.

My deepest condolences go to the Papadakis Family. We will miss him greatly. We will miss his vision and his leadership at Drexel University. The enormous impact that Taki Papadakis has had during his remarkable tenure as the President of Drexel is a fact, which can be seen by looking Drexel records on 1995 in comparison to 2009. Dear Maria.

I was so touched to hear your tribute to your father. He heard every word and cannot stop smiling with pride as he sits on the special throne provided for your daddy. I know you will continue to make your dad proud as you stated to me at the viewing. He will always be in you and your mother's hearts and your inspiration will help keep your dad's legacy alive.

What a beautiful ceremony and tribute to a wonderful man.
We will miss his presence and infectious smile.

God Bless.

Drexel is synonymous with Papadakis, for me. The energy and opportunity that he gave us as students was remarkable. The entire campus, transforming under our noses, made it feel like anything was possible - that we could accomplish anything. Taki represents the idea of forging your own opportunity; with good senses and persistant hard work, anything IS possible. To Maria, and the rest of the Papadakis family: I hope the shear multitude of these messages can help to fill the emptyness.
