Ms. Smitty taught my older siblings at Wilson and I had the pleasure of meeting her at Wilbur Wright. More like a mom, she was very dedicated to your success as a student. Then guess what we met again at Glenville. I truly loved her and would often come to visit after I graduated. I'm so hurt that I could no longer find her once she retired. Ms. Smitty will truly be missed...love u

My deepest sympathy is extended for the loss of Ms. Smitty. She is single handedly responsible in changing my life for the better. I met her in the 10th Grade and it was the year she changed me. Through her persistence, she saw that I did well and went to college. She was kind; she was funny, and she was fierce. Ms. Smitty was a rare breed, and walked tall in her calling as an educator and mentor. I am so glad to have met her!

Smitty was a once-in-a-lifetime teacher and mentor. She and Ramona Sancho mentored me as a brand new teacher at Glenville High School. Smitty taught me to get my students excited about science, to love them with my whole heart, and never accept less than their very best. 23 years later, I hope I have stayed true to what she taught me. I've tried to be a mentor to new teachers to pay it forward for what she did for me. May her legacy live on through the lives of the students and teachers she touched.

Thank you for being you Ms. Smitty! Ms. Smitty was my teacher back in high school and I´m so thankful to have had her guidance. What I adored most was that she was a black educator at a black school and it was wonderful to have someone who looked like us and poured life into us. So thankful to have experienced her brilliance and dedication. My deepest condolences to her family and friends. I wish you all healing and peace as you navigate her loss. May Ms. Smitty´s legacy live on through the rest of us. Love and light to you all.

I remember Miss Smitty when I was in the ninth grade. I think science class with her little voice and I snuck out of her classroom and in the middle of her teaching she came and found me in the hallway, drugged me by my ear and brought me back in class, when I tell you, that was the best teacher there I loved her till I left.. RIP smitty!!
