Cordes Langley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 1, 2005.
LANGLEY, Cordes P. Born December 25, 1925 in Berkeley, CA, passed away Sunday, February 27, 2005 at his home in Ukiah. He was a resident of Ukiah for nearly 55 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years Velma (Val), four children including daughters Catherine Elawadly of Ukiah and Edith Langley of Charlotte, NC, and sons Jeff Langley of Petaluma and Ed Langley of Beverly Hills; their mother Marie Langley; four grandchildren including Nihal Elawadly and Eric Herbert of Ukiah and William and Nicholas Powers of Charlotte; sister Ellen Alexander of Sonoma, and brother Phillip G. Langley of Walnut Creek. A prominent area businessman for many years, he founded and operated Redwood Coast Lumber Co., a large redwood remanufacturing and wholesale lumber concern for many years located at Plant Rd. and Taylor Dr. in Ukiah. Across the street, he also was a partner in the existing lumber treatment plant, Cal-Coast Wholesale Lumber. He went to his office as late as Saturday, February 26 to attend to matters. His death the next day was unexpected. He served his country in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He and his growing family moved to Ukiah in 1950 and started his lumber career as a logger and in later years moved and broadly expanded his lumber operations to south Ukiah. His career in the lumber industry spanned nearly 55 years and was a well-liked and trusted businessman. Without expecting recognition, he was always ready to give unselfishly and generously to many. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 1, 2005 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Eversole Mortuary. Services will be held at Eversole Mortuary on Wednesday, March 2 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Ukiah Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity. Arrangements under the direction of the EVERSOLE MORTUARY.

We are so sorry to hear of the passing of Cordes. May God be with you during this time.

We have many fond memories of you all during our time in Ukiah; trips to Juniper Lake; music lessons from Jeff; horseback rides with Edith; oh, so many good times.

Dear Val, Catherine, Edith, Jeff, Ed, and Marie:

We are very sorry about the loss of such a great man.

Our family has wonderful memories of Cordes: lunch at "the booth in the back", trips to Baja, "a little to the left," his guns, his trophy room, the birthday call we would all make on Christmas eve, his John Wayne impression and many, many more!

You just can't help but smile when you think of Cordes.

May we all be so lucky to as to bring the laughter and fun that Cordes brought to all of us.

Our thoughts, prayers and love are with you.

Love,

Claudia

Dear Val, Catherine, Edith, Jeff, Ed, and Marie,

Sometimes there are no words that can reveal the feelings of the heart, but please accept our deepest thoughts of you during this time.

I will never forget the first time I met Cordes. My Dad would always take the senior in high school on a Redwood buying trip and it was my turn.We stopped at a restraunt in Ukiah had lunch and then to Cordes' office. Then we went on a Bear hunting trip.. What a hoot that was. Never saw a bear, just heard barking dogs. We would have never received our patch in putting up a tent either. Also the trips to Baja, Mexico when I remember Cordes saying, " We're lost, but making good time."

Thanks for sharing your husband and Dad with our family. God Bless and know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Love,

Corinne, Jim, Rebecca and William Collins
