Cory Werner Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 26, 2024.
Cory Michael Werner, born December 18th, 1968, left this earth on October 28th, 2024. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, grew up in Dayton, Ohio, Hammond, Louisiana and San Antonio, Texas. Cory worked most of his career as a baker in Austin and Fort Worth, Texas and most enjoyed spending time with his companion and wife of 17 years, Brooke Pimentel. He was a dedicated son, brother, and friend to many. Cory's personality was infectious to say the least and he never met a person that didn't become a friend.

Cory loved many things including always having a good dog or boxer companion by his side, working on old cars, cruising in Austin with Pops, going on adventures with Todd (like the convertible trip from New York), sending his Mom pecan coffee & road trips to visit her in South Dakota, spending time with family and having many good times in Austin and Fort Worth with Brooke. He was a dedicated baker who specialized in scratch-baked artisan bread. He created and baked thousands of loaves over his 30-year career in culinary and put his heart and soul into each one. Outside of work, Cory was also a passionate amateur mechanic. He could usually be found working on older cars, bringing them back to life with enthusiasm and love. He was happiest when riding his bike and being outside; he loved going off the beaten path and finding new places to explore. Cory was also a devoted animal lover, especially for dogs. He couldn't walk past a stray dog without doing something and helped dozens of strays find food and shelter. He inherited a family love for boxers and always had a boxer companion throughout his life.

Cory was preceded in death by his father, William "Pops" H Werner Jr., his Aunts Virgina Werner Zimmer and Peggy Werner Cosimano, his uncle Michael John Sonn, and his cousin Matthew Zimmer. Cory leaves behind his Mother, Linda (Jim) Nehl, Keldron, SD, brother, Todd (Teresa), Austin, TX, his niece Ava Werner, best friend Brooke, and many cousins, uncles, and aunts who adored him. He will be missed very much.

I was blessed by Cory being in my life & family. He was very bright, informed, reliable, generous, caring, hard-working, kind, & accepting of others. His love of animals was inspiring; it contributed to his vast concern for our planet & its wildlife. He strived to be part of life´s solutions not its problems. Time with Cory was always enjoyably well spent & now forever treasured. His immense humility, commitment to service, & focus on purpose perhaps obstructed his realizing that our world needs Cory Werners as much as we who love him.
