Courtney Swanson Obituary
Mr. Swanson died Wednesday, March 19, 2003, after a brief illness.
He worked 40 years at Alcoa Davenport Works, Riverdale, Iowa. He retired in 1992. He was a lifetime sports car enthusiast. He served as a flagging and communications chief at road racing tracks throughout the country and was a serious autocross competitor.
He was born Oct. 22, 1929, in Galesburg, Ill., to White Sox baseball great Evar Swanson and Sara Willits Swanson. He married Naomi Niemiec in 1953 in Chicago.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Augustana College Alumni Association.
Survivors include his wife, Naomi; daughters, Heidi Chick and Danielle Huber, both of Columbia, Mo., and Heather Ketron, Leesburg, Va.; sons, Courtney Jr. and Greg, both of Moline, and Dana, Ashland, Neb.; 10 grandchildren; and brother, David, Honolulu.
