Curtis Buddingh Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 26, 2023.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Curtis Buddingh, a beloved husband to his soulmate of nearly 40 years. He was an amazing father, grandfather, and friend. He was 76 years old. On the morning of January 14, 2023, Curtis passed peacefully into the loving arms of the Heavenly Father. Born on July 23, 1946, in the Netherlands to Willem and Lubbertje. At the age of four, Curtis and his family moved to Hartley, Iowa. From the time he was in 8th grade, in his own words his "heart was set on being a chiropractor". In 1968 Curtis graduated with honors from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa.

Growing up in Iowa; Curtis loved spending his days swimming, fishing, playing golf, and tennis. Most of all in the summers he enjoyed building anything he could out of wood, paper, sticks, and cardboard; he built rubber band guns, swords, houses, and forts.

Curtis was a man who lived his life with integrity, warmth and a contagious sense of humor. He was devoted to his wife and was a loving and proud father to his children and grandchildren.

He loved chiropractic and loved caring for his patients, many became dear friends. He loved his family, he loved life, his friends and fellow colleagues.

Curtis thoroughly enjoyed collaborating with colleagues; these relationships meant so much to him. He was a lifelong learner, gifted healer and teacher; Curtis also enjoyed sailing, skiing, traveling, bible study, enjoying a cup of Earl Grey tea and watching the Lakers play.

Curtis's memory will live on through the countless people he has touched during his lifetime. He will be greatly missed by everyone that knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of knowledge, love and kindness. May he rest in peace, and may his memory be forever cherished.

In 1986 I attended a seminar taught by Dr Buddingh that changed the trajectory of my life. Over the years our relationship changed from a professional one to a friendship. I visited Curt at his home in Palm Springs many times and our families became close. Curt was much more than just a mentor to me and a great example of how to treat other people and live life.

I first met Curtis in 1978 when he was my SOT instructor at Cleveland Chiropractic College - Los Angeles with David Denton. At that time they were working together in West Los Angeles, before Curtis moved his office to the San Fernando Valley. He was always one of my favorite teachers of SOT as he always made me think, ponder. and consider what he was teaching me. Curtis was a very novel innovative thinker and profoundly generous with sharing through teaching. Often we would have study groups gatherings at his office where he would teach a group of interested doctors -- just out of the goodness of his heart.

I had the opportunity to work with him, when he came to work in my Santa Monica office for a few years before he moved to the Palm Springs area. He always had a slow warm voice and caring eyes that always made me think he never left his youth behind. I am so grateful that we had time together and that he could be my teacher, colleague, and friend. He shared so much that no matter what he will always be with me.
