Curtis Dungan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 21 to Feb. 25, 2024.
Curtis L. Dungan, 88, of Lake Milton, Ohio passed away peacefully on February 17th, 2024, at Mercy Health St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio surrounded by his loving family. He was born at home to the late Fred and Gladys (McKnight) Dungan in Warren, Ohio on December 27th, 1935. Curt was a 1954 graduate of Howland High School and went on to serve in the United States Army before being honorably discharged. He was a volunteer firefighter for Howland Fire Department for many years. Curt enjoyed singing and was the director of barbershop chorus in Warren, Ohio and Sharon, Pennsylvania. He also performed with a number of quartets in the region where he met his wife Georgia through their mutual love for singing barbershop music. Curt and Georgia were wed on June 14, 1975 and spent nearly 50 years together building a life and family.

Curt worked for many years as a quality assurance manager at Reznor Manufacturing in Mercer, Pennsylvania before retiring from TruCut Incorporated in Salem, Ohio. In addition to singing, Curt had many interests that included hunting, fishing, and traveling. He had a special love for dogs and always had a four-footed companion by his side. Curt was a proud member of the Society of Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America (SPEBSQSA), now known as the Barbershop Harmony Society. In the summer, Curt and his family enjoyed boating on Lake Milton and at the Lake Erie Islands. Upon retirement he and Georgia spent their winters at Nettles Island Florida where they made lifelong friendships.

Curt leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife, Georgia, children; Michael C. (Deanna) Dungan, Jerrold K. (Stacy) Dungan, Dr. David A. (Kim) Tonnies, and Brian A. (Sharon) Tonnies; his grandchildren, Jacob M. (Christina) Dungan, Samuel R. Dungan, Kelly E. Dungan, Kenneth W. (Morgan) Dungan, Chase W. Tonnies, and Carter J. Tonnies. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Jayne Kidder and a brother, Sterling Dungan.

Per the family's wishes, a private memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks you consider making a memorial contribution in Curt's name to Tunnel to Towers Foundation at www.t2t.org.
