Curtis Geer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 26, 2025.
Curtis Vickroy Geer, 87, passed away on February 24, 2025, in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Born on October 22, 1937, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Curtis later moved to Florida, where he built a life dedicated to education and family. He graduated from Clearwater High School before earning undergraduate degrees from St. Petersburg Junior College and the University of Tampa. Curtis furthered his education by obtaining a master's degree from the University of South Florida.

Curtis devoted his career to shaping young minds as a lifelong educator in Pinellas County. He began teaching at Lealman Junior High School before moving on to teach English at Azalea Junior High, Lakewood High School, and Boca Ciega High School. While at Boca Ciega, Curtis also served as an award-winning boys' basketball coach and registrar. His leadership continued as a registrar at Osceola High School and an assistant principal at Clearwater High School. Curtis culminated his distinguished career as the principal of Seminole High School for eight years before retiring in 1992.

Beyond his professional achievements, Curtis was a passionate sports fan who avidly followed the Florida Gators, Boston Celtics, and San Francisco Giants. He enjoyed playing basketball, tennis, ping pong, and golf-activities that brought him joy throughout his life. Above all else, Curtis cherished time spent with his grandchildren and loved them unconditionally. He never missed a baseball, football, volleyball, softball or hockey game.

Curtis is survived by Kathryn, his beloved wife of 64 years; children Jennifer (Daniel Smith), Craig (Jen Nichols), Kris (Bob Sulte), and Gretchen (Tim Brown); grandchildren Samantha, Tyler (Kelly), Dan, Bobby (Angie), Emily (Zane), Spencer, Alexandra, Patrick, and Abby; great-grandchildren Colton and Penny; brothers Bruce (Eileen) and Byron ( Joanie), and sister Annette Motley (Ron). He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Betty, and brothers Martin and William.

A Funeral Mass will be held on March 8, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Jude’s the Apostle Cathedral, located at 5815 5th Ave N., St. Petersburg, FL 33710. A reception will follow at the St. Pete Yacht Club at 11 Central Ave., St. Petersburg.

Curtis leaves behind a legacy of dedication to education, love for family, and passion for sports that will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

To my oldest brother Curt, you lived a wonderful life. You and Kay were a match made in heaven. You knew how to live and love and make the most of life. Your sense of humor made you so much fun to be around. You set the example for the rest of us. You followed in Mom´s footsteps. You built a family that love one another, would do anything for one another, support and encourage one another. Thank you for a lifetime of fond memories. Thankful you are now at peace. I will miss you very much but I will see you again some day.
Your loving sister,
Annette

Mr.Geer was such a wonderful principal during my years at Seminole. (87-90) I don´t think I ever saw him walk the hallways without smile on his face. His positive and supportive energy set the tone for the entire campus. Sending love and light to his family during this difficult time.

He was a great principal. I graduated in 1987. I remember him being at the top of the stairs in the student parking lot in the mornings. He always welcomed each & every student with kind words as they walked by him.

Bill Killalea sharing- Mr.Geer was the best principal I ever worked under in my 38 years of teaching and coaching basketball. He took a chance in me in 1985 and gave me the opportunity to become a varsity basketball coach at Seminole HS. He was always supportive. I will always remember our talks at the front counter just about every morning about basketball, baseball or our baseball card collections. He loved the San Francisco Giants. Some days we would stand at the "T" and he would know every student by their first names as he walked by. The students and faculties that he directed will never forget him. RIP Mr.Geer. My condolences to Kay and the Geer family.

Mr Geer was one of the nicest people I've ever encountered in my life. He was always in a wonderful mood and knew how to cheer up everyone around him. He was such an amazing role model to all of us students at Seminole high School. He was always very interested in my baseball career and we chatted about sports in general all the time. He will be truly missed.

Thanks for being an A+ uncle, Uncle Curt. You had an amazing ability of giving me a hard time and showing you cared at the same time! I try to be more like that every day. I will always treasure our conversations-whether we were diving into family trees or talking about Prince, you made every discussion fun and memorable. Your warmth, humor, and wisdom will stay with me always. You will be missed.
