Dad, I am grateful for the life you have given me and I'm certain that you are living in my heart. You were my father of course, but you were also my friend. Once I heard about your cancer diagnosis and did research on probabilities of survival, I fell into a deep sadness. You may be physically gone, but you're spiritually within my heart. I will carry you along life's journey as I start a family in the near future. I'm determined to posses your provider mentality, family first heart, and eccentric soul for as long as I live. The memories we made will forever be cherished. It is still hard to believe you're gone, but one day I will see you again. I love you Dad.

Rest easy Dad, until we met amongst the stars again one day. Ted Kennedy Jr. once said, "My father taught me that even our most profound losses are survivable and it is what we do with that loss, our ability to transform it into a positive event, that is one of my father“s greatest lessons." This quote describes what I seemed to have been struggling to find words for. You taught me perseverance, determination, to fight for what I wanted and mostly never to give up because we don't quit, until the end we fight for what and who we care about. We didn't always see eye to eye, some would say it's because we were both stubborn, yet neither of us ever stopped caring. You always were my daddy; the one whose big shoes I stomped around in as a child, the one whose hand I held when afraid, and the one whose feet I danced upon while listening to you singing. You were the single dad struggling to raise his two kids for a while on his own. Yet, you managed. You still attempted braiding my hair (even if it always fell out by the time I got to school), you taught me to plaster even if it meant we'd both be covered in joint compound. You made sure we had family bike rides on the riverfront, roller skating on the weekends, and pizza nights. You had your silly wrestler voice imitations, love of country music, and attempts at guitar playing which often made me cringe. It's who you were...my dad. There are so many things that I wish we could've said before we missed that chance. I'm just reminded of the quote above and how even in loss it's up to those of us behind to find peace and to turn it into a positive. I'm going to do just that. You aren't in pain anymore and knowing that, in itself is peaceful. You will be missed.
