CURTIS MARTIN Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 1, 2011.
CURTIS ELMER MARTIN August 2, 1939 - February 24, 2011 (PAPA) THE ROCK OF OUR LIFE Curtis Elmer Martin passed away on Thursday, February 24, 2011, doing what he loved - working in the construction electrical industry. An accomplished Master Electrician, Curtis was an icon in the construction industry. A trainer and mentor to countless skilled electrical professionals, Curtis was known as the "Teacher's Teacher." While Curtis was quiet and humble, his life's work was anything but that - he was instrumental in building our West Coast electrical infrastructure. Curtis was a devoted family man and the "Rock" of the Martin family. Curtis is survived by the love of his life and his best friend, his devoted wife, Peggy Martin. With their 50th Wedding Anniversary approaching on August 4, 2011, Curtis and Peggy went through life hand-in-hand. Curtis is also survived by his two beautiful daughters, Hope Martin- Williams and Robin Martin, and their loving families, Greg Williams (Son-in-law) and grandchildren. Known as "Papa" to his grandsons, Kyle Martin, Jase Martin, and Brody Williams, and granddaughter, Janelle, Curtis loved them all and showered each with attention and playfulness. The son of Nobe and Gladys Martin, Curtis was born on August 2, 1939 in Ft Gibson, Oklahoma. Preceded in death by his father, mother, and brother, Kenny Martin, as well as his nephew, Mike Martin, he is survived by his siblings, Charles Martin and Connie Ford. A veteran of the United States Army and a Veteran of the Vietnam War, Curtis served the Nation honorably before pursuing his passion in the electrical industry in 1965. For more than 45 years, Curtis touched the lives of countless men and woman whom had the privilege of not only working with and learning from Curtis but also, getting to know the "man" whom they all described as "salt of the earth." Please join us in celebrating the life of Curtis Elmer Martin, loving and devoted husband, father, grand father, Master Electrician, and friend to everyone he met; on Thursday, March 3, 2011, at Crossroads Christian Church, 2331 Kellogg Ave., Corona. Viewing will be held from 10:00 - 11:30 A.M., with Celebration of Life Services beginning at 12:00 P.M. Graveside Services will follow at Crestlawn Memorial Park, 11500 Arlington Ave., Riverside.

The love we have for Papa will never fade away. We'll think of him, our special friend throughout each passing day. We'll walk into the room and see his empty chair; although we know he's resting, we'll feel his presence there. The memories of his laughter, his warm loving smile, his eyes so full of hapiness, his heart of a child.
Memories are forever be they laughter or of tears, memories we will treasure through all the forthcoming years.

Hey Kiddo! I am going to miss hearing those words as you sat in your chair with that big ole smile.I am going to miss sitting and talking about about work or what went on in our day, no matter how bad my day was when we got done talking it didn't seem to be that bad anymore, you always had great advice and I thank you for that. You were there for us no matter what even if you were missing your Nascar race or we were cutting into your nap time that meant so much to me. you were liked and loved by many, Thank you for everything you will be missed greatly.

Message to the Beautiful and Loved family of Curt Martin: When I left this world without you,I know it made you blue. Your tears fell so freely, I watched, I know this is true. From this peaceful place called Heaven, where all my pain is gone, I send a gentle breeze to whisper, " My loved ones, PLEASE go on." You need not be troubled, just stay close to God in prayer, Someday, we will all be re-united. His love surrounds you always, everywhere. Just feel the wind upon your face, and as it brushes onto your rosey cheeks, and flows through your beautiful hair, Feel the LOVE that is in the wind that surrounds each and everyone of you !!!!!!!

To most thoughtful family,
I am so sorry for your loss. I am heart broken. He was such a hard worker and a wonderful family man. If you needed anything he was there to help you.He would drop anything to give you a hand. I rember my husband working on something in the garage and he yelled over do you need a hand. Since then my husband was killed by a drunk driver and now Curtis can reunite with Lance. My heart is with you all.Lots of Love Wendy, Nick, Ashley and Bryce Furman

March 6,

Dear Kyle, Peggy, Hope & Robin,
Please know how very sorry I am about your loss. I know Curt was a very special man and it is so sad that he had such a tragic accident. I have thought about all of you and prayed for you. Remember the good times and the wonderful things he did for each of you and his generousity. These memories along with faith in God will get you through this difficult time but I know it will be hard and wish there was something I could do to ease your burden. Chuck & I will always be grateful for his friendship to Barton. We will continue to keep all of you in our prayers.

I have known Curt for more than 24-yours; almost half of my life and most of my adult life. I found myself on the day of Curt's funeral not knowing what to say, not knowing what to feel; just feeling choked up and on the verge of tears the entire time. Mostly, I just felt like not just the Martin family and all of the people whose lives Curt touched directly, had lost someone very special and very important; but the entire world and this nation in particular had lost someone whose impact has been felt in ways most of us will never know nor understand.
It is Curt, and men like Curt, who are the backbone of America. They have an inherit code of honor that they can never violate and they never expect any more of someone else than what they would of themselves. Curt was the prototypical example of such a man and always led by example; giving the rest of us a model for which we could only hope that we might come close to, but could never truly reach.
He was humble, yet proud; simple in lifestyle, yet complex in intellect and knowledge; focused on whatever was in front of him; yet broad in what he was capable of dealing with. Curt was the type of man and person whom you could always count on to do the "right thing" and that by itself makes him far more valuable than mere words can ever express.
At home, he was the consummate family man; paying attention to the things that mattered and knowing which battles to let go and which ones to take on. He was stern, yet tender and serious, yet often times playful.
I have only known a handful of men in my life that I personally admire, respect, and wish I could be more like; and for me, Curt was such a man and someone who I will personally miss.
I know my son Kyle was very close to Curt, and for that I am thankful. Curt filled the gap many times when I could not be there for one reason or the other. I know Kyle will miss him and I grieve not just for myself, but more so for Kyle. All I can offer Kyle, Hope, Peggy, Robin, Jase, Brody, and the rest of the family, is that so long as you keep Curt in your heart and remember both who he was and what he stood for; you can make it through the day. That is what Curt would have done and that is all any of us can do in such a situation.
Good Bye Curt, you will be dearly missed; forever emulated; and most of all, always remembered!

My condolences to the Martin family, he was a great guy and a great teacher, we are going to miss you amigo.

My condolences to the Martin family. I know first hand how generous he was. My Mom and Dad, "D.T." and Neta Garrison were often the recipients. I was living in Santa Maria, but was often in Taft when Curtis and Charles would come by and do some electrical work on their home. They would take a piece of Mom's pie and coffee, but never payment for their efforts. Very special and will always remember.

Peg,

Unlike Curt, I am stuck for words to express how sorry and saddened I am for your unexpected loss! Please know how thankful I am for Curt’s influence on my life and know that many of my best childhood memories were spent in your home. I am blessed to have had an uncle who was always there for me. He had a nature you could not help admire and his heart was purer than gold! The lessons Curt taught me as a child will stay with me forever! I love you all and I pray that God fills your home with lots of love and peace during this difficult time!
