Cynthia Jane Huyett

Cynthia J. Farmer Huyett, of Kansas City, KS, age 74, was born in Fort Scott, KS on January 12, 1950. With her family by her side, she peacefully joined her creator the early morning of Wednesday, February 21, 2024. Cyndy grew up on the family farm, attended a 1-room schoolhouse, was actively involved in 4-H Club and graduated from Ft. Scott High in 1968. She met her husband, Steven E. Huyett, while attending Pittsburg University. They were married for 31 years. She was the granddaughter of Cad and Mabel (States) Martin and the oldest daughter of Eugene L. (Ruth) Farmer and Betty Jane (Martin) Farmer. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Kathy Bailey. Cynthia is survived by her brothers, Rod (Kris) Farmer and Marty (Sandy) Farmer, her children, Katrina (Daniel) Albert, Josh (Laura) Huyett, and Amanda Sholey, grandchildren Isaac, Joey, and William Albert, Hannah and Wyatt Huyett, and Calvin, Gracie, and Isabel Sholey.

Cynthia raised 3 children using her skills learned to pinch pennies and make something out of nothing each day. She took evening classes at Kansas City Kansas Community College earning an Associate Degree in 1990. Her education allowed her to proudly retire from the US Department of Agriculture after 30 years as an accountant.

Cynthia was an ordained Elder in Community of Christ and attended the Shawnee Drive Congregation for 54 years. Her sermons were always thoroughly researched and leaned heavily upon the scriptures. Cyndy shared her time, talents, and earnings generously with her community as a girl's youth leader, Argentine Food Kitchen coordinator, provider of transportation for elderly women, mentor of young parents, and considered a stalwart member and leader of the church.

Family and friends were very dear to Cynthia. She reliably had an opinion and was willing to share it. Her candidness was an endearing trademark of her personality. She won many awards participating in Toastmasters Club and often hosted Red Hat Society gatherings. She loved being outdoors "playing in the dirt", caring for flowers and planning tea parties with the grandchildren.

Cynthia will be incredibly missed by generations of family, friends, neighbors, classmates, and churchgoers. Her sweet smile welcomed everyone who came into her presence.

Her memorial service will be held on March 9th at Shawnee Drive Community of Christ located at 4440 Shawnee Drive Kansas City, KS 66106. The visitation will begin at 10:00am, service at 11:00am with meal following. Please consider contributing in Cynthia's name to Outreach International, one of her favorite organizations.
