Charles Cyril Edwards, Jr., 83, of New Bern, passed away on Friday, January 31, 2014. He was born on February 13, 1930 to the late Ruth Hardison Edwards and Charles Cyril Edwards, Sr. in New Bern. He was a member of First Baptist Church and was the past secretary and a charter member of Berne Masonic Lodge No. 724, a member of the New Bern York Rite Bodies and the Sudan Temple. He was also a member of the Atlantic Steam Fire Engine Company No. 1 and served as Chief in 1960. Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Monday, February 3, 2014 at Pollock-Best Funeral Chapel with Dr. Steve Fitzgerald officiating. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mildred Rose Jackson Edwards of the home; two sons, Charles Lenwood "Len" Edwards of Clinton, Tenn. And Charles Cyril Edwards, III and wife, Lisa of New Bern; one daughter, Sheila Edwards Austin and husband, Bill of New Bern; brothers, William Harvey "Billy" Edwards of Oak Island and Carl Stewart Edwards and wife, Loretta of Charlotte; sister, Annette Edwards Brown and husband, Michael of New Bern; grandchildren, Christopher David Edwards and wife, Jamie of New Bern, Melissa Edwards Alcorn and husband, Matthew of Clinton, Tenn., Keri Elizabeth Edwards of Petersburg, Va., Samuel Barrett Edwards and wife, Jamie of New Bern, Charles Cyril "Chuck" Edwards, IV and wife, Allison of New Bern, Anne Caroline Austin of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Catherine Rose Austin of New Bern; and six great grandchildren. The family will receive friends just prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Sheila and Bill Austin. Memorials may be made to the Masonic and Eastern Star Home, 700 South Holden Road, Greensboro, NC 27407.
