Cyrus Francis Alexander, also known as Alex, was born on the island of St. Lucia on July 29, 1941 and passed away on April 19, 2021 at 4:59am. He is preceded in death by his parents Poleon Alexander and Lucy Adele Alexander and one brother, Greenbert Alexander of St. Lucia.
Cyrus left St. Lucia in the early '60s when he went sailing on a yacht and eventually became the Captain. He then came to the United States where he became a chef in Rhode Island. Later, he moved to Worcester where he found employment with Digital Equipment Corporation in Marlborough, MA from 1974-1996 when he took an early retirement. He subsequently went to work for Worcester Housing Authority until he retired.
Cyrus attended Assumption College where he attained a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration in 1987. He also was a bodybuilder who participated in fitness competitions where he won several trophies. He was a devoted husband and father and also a member of St. Peter’s Church in Worcester.
Cyrus is survived by his wife of 32 years, Ingrid Kangal Alexander of Worcester, two daughters Neila Alexander of Worcester and Lisa Alexander of Philadelphia, PA, three sons, Ricky Alexander of Los Angeles, Cyrus Alexander Jr, and Ronnell Alexander, both of Worcester, one stepson, Neale Kangal of Worcester, and his two beloved grandchildren Sayeed Alexander and Reagan Alexander. He also leaves behind 6 brothers: Raphael Eleuthere and his wife Clara and Hatty Alexander (Toot) and his wife Elnora, both of St Lucia, Moses Eleuthere, McConay (Renick) Alexander and his wife Brenda, Allan (Justin) Alexander, John Alexander and his wife Suzanna (Janice), all of Worcester; three sisters: Mary Alexander (Celeste) of Worcester, Paulina Alexander Solvar and Delina Alexander Reno, both of Martinique; several nieces and nephews residing in the US and the Caribbean, and several cousins and friends — too numerous to mention.
Also left to cherish his memory are his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law of the Kangal Family of St. Lucia.
A period of calling hours will be held on Saturday, May 1, 2021 from 9:30-11 am in St. Peter’s Church, 931 Main St., Worcester with his Funeral Mass to be celebrated immediately following at 11:00 am. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester is honored to be assisting the family with arrangements.
