CHARLESTON - D. Jeanette Murry, age 81 of Charleston, passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2011 at Hilltop Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Services honoring and celebrating her life will be held today (Saturday, July 30) at 4:00 p.m. at Adams Funeral Chapel with Pastor Ray Finney officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the services at the funeral chapel. A Private Family Inurnment will be held at a later date in Roselawn Cemetery in Charleston. Jeanette was born on a farm in Jasper County, Illinois on April 5, 1930 a daughter of the late L.A. "Sam" and Artella (Vance) Dillman. She married Gerald R. "Jerry" Baker and later married Jack E. Murry in Charleston. Both preceded her in death. She is survived by her two sons, Jeffrey A. Baker and wife Connie of St. Joseph, Illinois and John E. Baker of Branson, Missouri; three grandsons, Jeff Baker and wife Aimie of Shorewood, Illinois, Jordan Baker and wife Kayla of Charleston, Joshua Baker and wife Mallory of Newton, Illinois; and four great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her baby sister, Willmetta "Metta" Dillman. Jeanette was a 1948 graduate of Oblong High School. She graduated with a B.S. from Eastern Illinois University in 1952 with a major in Business Education, her M.S. in Education from EIU in 1969 and later her Specialist's Degree from the University of Illinois. During her undergraduate years at EIU, she was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority. She taught high school at both Mattoon and Paris. She later accepted a position with E.I.U. as a Student Teacher Coordinator and retired as a faculty member of EIU's Business Education Department. Jeanette was an educator, both in and out of the classroom. She truly enjoyed her chosen profession, working with young people and instilling in them the joys of teaching and learning. I was so sorry to read of your mother's passing. I met her when I was working at EIU in the 70s and she was a studen teacher coordinator. Such a nice person and I'm sure you all will miss her deeply. Please accept my sympathies.
