Daisy White Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 21, 2025.
Daisy Goodrich White, born on May 17, 1937, in Prince Edward County, Virginia, passed away on February 17, 2025, in Richmond, Virginia. She was raised on a tobacco farm alongside her twelve siblings and carried the values of hard work and family throughout her life.

Daisy met William T. White Jr. (Bill) through his sister while he was serving in the U.S. Navy. After a brief courtship, they married in 1957 and built a life together, raising four children. In addition to caring for her nieces and nephews when they were young, Daisy worked in department stores and as a nursing assistant. She was affectionately known as "Nannie" to her grandchildren, always greeting them with a warm smile and open arms. Her joyous sense of humor and kindhearted nature endeared her to all who knew her.

A devoted member of La Crosse United Methodist Church in La Crosse, Virginia, Daisy was active in the Ladies Circle. She was also a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star. In her later years, she found a cherished community at the Masonic Home of Virginia, where she was known for her love of conversation and competitive spirit at bingo.

In addition to her parents James Sherman Goodrich and Carrie Warren Goodrich, Daisy was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years William T. White Jr. and daughter Nancy L. Rutledge; brothers; James C. Goodrich, Teddy Goodrich, Henry Goodrich, Robert Goodrich & James S. Goodrich; sisters, Sarah Vaughan, Margaret Buffkin, Peggy Newcomb, Jeanette Goodrich, & Fanny Goodrich. Surviving sisters are Clarece Cannaday (BJ), & Lillian Newcomb. Daisy is also survived by her 3 children; Rachel W. Benash (Ron), William T. White, III and Mary W. Canova (Tim); 9 grandchildren; Melanie Benash, Tony Benash, Will Rutledge (Paige), Robin Gregory (Chris), Jarrod Matthews, Erica Toothman, Brittney Sullivan, Mikael White, Josh Canova (Kayla); 13 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

A graveside service will be held at Cool Springs Christian Church in Keysville, Virginia, with the date forthcoming to accommodate travelers. The family extends their gratitude to the Masonic Home of Virginia and Ascend Hospice for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Masonic Home of Virginia, 500 Masonic Ln, Richmond, VA 23223.
