Dale "Pinky" Bloemen

Dale "Pinky" Bloemen, age 73, passed away on July 29, 2023, in Jim Thorpe, PA. Born and raised in Valparaiso, IN. on February 11, 1950, Dale was the beloved son of the late Frank and Hope (Whitlow) Bloemen.

Born a fair skinned redhead, with a love of all things outdoors, Dale earned the moniker of Pinky (aka Pink) at a very young age that was to become his lifelong beloved nickname. This love of the outdoors became the backdrop for his life. His very favorite place ever was to be in nature, surrounded by family. Vivacious in character, but a tad bit shy, friendly to everyone he met and with a profound love for all creatures,he was always the happiest outside, on any trail, any season, anywhere.

Curious and intelligent would be a mild description of his intellect .... He enlisted in the Army straight out of high school where he served in Vietnam for 14 months as a airplane mechanic where he developed a love of mechanical engineering. With an honorable discharge under his belt he enrolled at Purdue University where he earned 3 degrees; Early Childhood Education, Mechanical Engineering Technology and Computer Science. He then pursued a lifelong career as a software engineer, most notably and for 20+ yrs with Raytheon, where he eventually retired from.

Dale is survived by his loving sister, Vivian, and her husband, Dick, along with a multitude of cousins, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his two daughters, Heather and Katherine, three grandsons, Jonathan, Michael, and Devin, and two great-granddaughters, Nevaeh and Olivia. Dale was preceded in death by his wife, Vanessa, his brother, William (aka Dee), and his daughter, Angela.

In accordance with Dale's final wish, he will be cremated, and his ashes will be scattered in his daughter Heather's rose garden. As this is a private residence, there will not be a formal service.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Dale's name to any of the following charitable foundations that he was a supporter of: The Audubon Society, The Nature Conservancy, and Doctors Without Borders.

Dale "Pinky" Bloemen will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy of love for nature and engineering will continue to inspire and touch the lives of those he leaves behind. May he rest in love and eternal peace.

I knew Dale from Purdue in the early 80's (while I was studying meteorology) first babysitting Heather and Angela, then over the years he came to my rescue digitally, nautically, practically, more times than I can recall (esp. the time he drove me back to clean out rest of my Trenton house I had just sold to move to Maine that I physically was UNable to face)..

RIP Uncle Dale. For most, life gets in the way of keeping in touch but not for Dale. He was always there. A great man. You will be missed.

Dale was a good friend, very generous. I'm now sorry I didn't make a special effort to spend time with him on my last trip to the States.

He was taken too soon. I would have loved to hear about his wonderful outdoor adventures. My deepest heartfelt condolences to the Family.
