Dale (Daunoris) Young Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 4, 2024.
Dale Jean (Daunoris) Young began her wait for the resurrection October 16, 2024, with her son Christopher at her side. Born October 14, 1942 in Akron, Ohio, Dale spent her childhood in Cuyahoga Falls, relocating to Portage Lakes at age 13. A play-by-ear musician, Dale proudly performed with the Coventry High School Marching Band in the Orange Bowl Parade, graduating in 1960. After graduating from Kent State University in 1964, her first teaching position was at Akron's David Hill Elementary School. A warm relationship with one of her students made Mrs. Young realize that she wished to be a mother.

In 1971, while balancing her teaching career, co-ownership of the Peking Tokyo Restaurant in Cuyahoga Falls and her duties as a homemaker, she gave birth to her son. Circumstances caused she and her son to spend several years living in various states before returning to Ohio in 1981, where she would substitute in school systems throughout Northeast Ohio. She later resumed full time teaching at Akron Public Schools' Barrett Academy, Mason Elementary School, and Betty Jane Annex before remaining at McEbright Elementary School through to her retirement.

An avid traveler, Dale traveled countless times cross country with her son by her side. She traveled with Chris' father to live with her in laws in Taiwan for a time, cementing herself as part of the Yang family's East Asian and Taiwanese fine arts legacy More recently, she accompanied her son back to Taiwan and the family's art museum

No other role dominated her life however, as that of mother to Christopher, and mother figure to many wonderful friends and chosen family. In this role, she served selflessly, patiently and tenderly, with bottomless reservoirs of love, affection, and emotional intelligence. Preceded in death by her parents Albert and Evelyn Daunoris, and her sister, Cheryl Anne Daunoris Quadrel, she is survived by son Christopher K. Young daughter in law Elaine Wang nephew Michael Albert Daunoris Quadrel, along with generations of loving students, friends and young people whose lives she touched.

A secular Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, November 16, 2024, one month to the day of her passing, at one of the schools she taught with, Mason CLC, 700 E. Exchange St, Akron, Ohio, 44306. Service hours will be from 12:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. The celebration will be a potluck event. In lieu of flowers, attendees may bring snacks or refreshments suitable for the occasion. Inquiries may be made with Christopher at: [email protected].

Additionally, in observance of her faith as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, a Zoom service will take place Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. Zoom meeting ID: 641 497 0464, passcode: y7fAuy
