Dale Hollingsworth Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 18, 2020.

Dale Alden Hollingsworth, age 85, originally of Sheridan, Indiana, passed away on Saturday morning, June 13, 2020 at Hamilton Trace in Fishers, Indiana.  Born March 1, 1935 in Sheridan, he was the son of the late Raymond Dale and Lenore June (Spurgeon) Hollingsworth-Deakyne.

Growing up, Dale loved playing basketball and continued playing through his high school career.  After graduating from Sheridan with the Class of 1954, Dale's interests turned toward aviation.  He quickly acquired his pilot's license and started flying single engine aircraft.  His passion and attention to detail led him to take a job at the Sheridan Airport.  From 1955-1960 he worked as a pilot, as well as an aircraft mechanic and fabricator.  In 1960, Dale decided to go into business for himself; he left the airport and started Alden's Body Shop.  For half a century Dale, or Alden as many people knew him, worked on just about everything - starting out in his garage, then owning a couple of other shops around town through the years.  From autobody work, to engine work, to people just bringing their truck out as an excuse to stop by and shoot the breeze, all comers were welcome.

Dale wasn't all work and no play.  He loved fishing and going out on the boat.  Over the years Dale had several pontoon boats and never missed a chance to take his family and friends out cruising on the water.  Dale was also an avid mushroom hunter.  Every year in the early spring he was the first one out in the woods, scared to death that someone was going to beat him to his secret spots.  As the years started to catch up to Dale, his favorite pastime became watching sports.  He loved the Colts and the Pacers, but nothing could top IU Basketball.

He was a member of the Sheridan First Christian Church, the Sheridan Jaycees, and the Rotary Club of Sheridan.

I met Dale at Hamilton Trace Rehab Facility in Fishers Indiana. I was his primary nurse. Dale and I had a very special bond. I will always remember our talks that we had, the lectures he would give me about working too many hours, and all the updates over any basketball/football game that was on during working hours. There was a rule when the Colts were playing, if they scored /touchdown, he would put his call light on and I automatically knew he wanted to see me in his room. The nurses station/my desk was right next to his room, so I would always hear him yell during ANY sport game. That would make me smile instantly. Dale was full of wisdom. I enjoyed hearing about all his pilot /flying years. His attention to detail was evident in everything he did. He was a perfectionist. One funny story I must share....... my good nurse friend Nicole was caring for Dale on one of my off days. I will never forget the frantic phone call from Nicole . Nicole updated his dry erase board with the current date, Nurse and cnas names . Well on the bottom of his dry erase board , I wrote a message years ago I love you, Dale which Nicole erased. Nicole got an ear full from Dale. Nicole ran to the phone to call me and let me know what she did. The following day was my scheduled day to work, so I
Wrote a new message , exact wording on his dry erase board. That message remains there today. I could not erase it!
I am going to miss Dale so much. I was honored to be with him on his last days. I whispered multiple times in his ear I love you Dale. With tears in my eyes and sadness in my heart , heaven gained a great man, a man that I sure love♥
Love,
Paula RN ( nurse at HamiltonTrace )
