Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, with Military Honors by Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post 24.
Dale died Friday, Dec. 14, at his home.
Visitation is from 1-7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen, with family present from 5-7 p.m.
Dale "Buz" LeRoy Potter was born on Dec. 7, 1949, to Dale Clifford and Florence (Connor) Potter at Aberdeen, S.D.
He grew up and attended school in Aberdeen, starting in Monroe Grade School, then attending Simmons Middle School and graduating from Central High School in 1968.
Buz started a year at Northern State University, but was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War. During his service, Buz was stationed in Germany with the Signal Corps.
Buz married Sherry Bartos on Aug. 25, 1969, at Webster, S.D.
After Buz's service in the military, he and Sherry made their home in Aberdeen. He worked for Nash Finch for awhile and then started working for the Aberdeen School District. Beginning as a Custodian, Buz later became a Foreman and was currently the school district's Operations Director. Buz was with the school district for 33 years. He always loved the challenge of his job and the people he worked with.
Music was always important to Buz. He loved the Beatles and other classic rock groups. His grandchildren always said, "My grandpa rocks!" Buz played the Rhythm Guitar, the Organ, and loved to sing. Music was a stress relief for Buz.
He also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and friends. Buz liked watching the Indianapolis Colts and the New York Yankees and had played softball. The family enjoyed hours of playing basketball in the dark together.
Buz loved his dogs. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and lived out his faith in being a servant. He always said he just wanted his obituary to read, "He lived, he loved, he had a great family."
Grateful for having shared Buz's life are his wife, Sherry of Aberdeen; three sons: Doug (Tiki) Potter of Box Elder, S.D., and their children, Korrina, Kira and Tanea Potter, Shawn (Tammy) Potter of Aberdeen, and their children, Gage Potter, Shay Potter, and Jordan Swanson, and Brent Potter and his fiancŽe Kaeleen Coe of Las Vegas, Nev.; his sister, Linda (Mick) Zerr of Sioux Falls, S.D., and their children, Derin, Brian (Cody), and Jamie Zerr.
Buz was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Florence, and his grandparents.
