Graveside services for Dale Evert Sherwood, 84, of Hallsville, will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 30, 2009, at LaGrone's Chapel Cemetery with Dr. Danny Warbington officiating. Services are under the direction of Welch Funeral Home Mr. Sherwood died on Sunday in Dallas.

Mr. Sherwood was born September 14, 1924, in Alba, Texas, to Evert and Rosie Donovan Sherwood. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Mr. Sherwood was retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone after 42 years and raised and trained quarter and thoroughbred horses for over 18 years. He was a great horse trader. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Leah Jane Sherwood.

He is survived by his wife, Delana Sherwood of Hallsville; sons and daughter-in-law, Terry Sherwood of Hallsville, Danny and Earlette Poindexter of Hallsville; grandsons and their spouses, Shane and Shelly Sherwood of Hallsville, Mark and Jessica Poindexter of Florida, Jimmy and Tanya Poindexter of Hallsville; great-grandchildren, Colton Sherwood, Emilee Sherwood, Claire Sherwood, Megan Poindexter, Leira Poindexter, Anola Poindexter, Dustin Muniz and Eric Muniz; siblings, Leanell Harrell and June Jenkins; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends today, April 29, 2009, at 6 p.m. at the funeral home, 4619 Judson Road.
