Dale Terjung Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 24, 2024.
Dale Terjung, a devoted servant to others and beloved educator, passed away on May 10, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on May 23, 1945, in Mount Vernon, Ohio, Dale was the son of Rev. George Terjung, pastor of Arlington Memorial Baptist Church in Akron, Ohio and Martha Terjung. A dedicated follower of Christ, Dale knew Jesus as his personal savior. His faith was the cornerstone of his life, and his actions reflected his commitment to living out his beliefs. Those who knew him are confident he heard, "Well done, good and faithful servant," as he was welcomed into Heaven.

Dale epitomized the spirit of service throughout his life. He dedicated countless hours to the Florida Baptist Children's Home, now known as One More Child, where he served on the board of directors and volunteered for over a decade. He led teams of men to help maintain their Lakeland facility, embodying his selfless nature.

As an educator, Dale was a cherished teacher at Innes Junior High and Ellet High School in Akron, Ohio. He was deeply loved by his students, teaching various art classes and advising the yearbook for many years. Although he received numerous awards for his contributions, Dale was always humble, often saying, "It is not about me." As one of his many art classes, Dale taught students about pottery and ceramics. In scripture, 2 Corinthians 4 talks about our treasure in jars of clay. Dale's wish would be that we not remember the beauty of his jar of clay, but rather that we would treasure the Christ within it.

Dale is survived by his beloved wife Gayle of 56 years, his son Brian and wife Sherry, and his granddaughter Madison, who shared many cherished moments as his "golf cart buddy," and her husband Sean Murray. He was the fourth of five children and was preceded in death by his parents and his older siblings, Joyce, Russ, and Ron. His younger sister, Joan, and her husband, Mark Denholm, also remain to honor his memory.

Dale's legacy of service, love, and faith will continue to inspire all who knew him. His impact on his community and family is a testament to a life well-lived in the service of others. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to One More Child at 1015 Sikes Blvd., Lakeland, Florida 33815 to honor his memory. A celebration of life service will take place June 29, 2024 at 2 PM in the Piper Center on campus at One More Child in Lakeland.

Mr. T as we called him was a great guy and a fun teacher. I had him just one semester as art wasn´t my thing but he made it fun and I made the best of it. I was friends with his son Brian (BT) and we did some activities with our church, The Chapel on Fir Hill, together. I wish the Terjung family all of the peace and love and they will be in my prayers.

I remember Mr Terjung as my art teacher at Ellet High School the thing that stood out with me about him besides being a great teacher but his love for Jesus Christ.

He was my art teacher at Ellet high school... he always looked out for me, was there if I needed to talk... not like other teachers.... He truly will be missed

Dale and I taught at Ellet High School. He was a good friend and we worked on many projects together. My fondest memory was our Faculty Follies where he helped make a calendar of the men teachers (wearing funny boxer shorts) and the women teachers (dressed like the holidays.) The best was when he did "Bedtime stories from Uncle Dale," where he scrambled words and pronunciations! He was a great teacher and friend. He will be missed! I helped Brian (Mr. Terjung the younger) and Dale (Mr. Terjung the elder) work on one of Brian's cars. Dale showed astounding patience and calm that made the process smoother and helped me to keep the coarser aspects of my personality in check. He has passed that talent along to Brian (whether he knows it or not), and thus Dale remains with us.

We have fond memories of him and his wife opening their home to us on Easter Sunday for several years and making us feel very special. He was such a kind and thoughtful man and will be missed.
