Dan Moose Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 26, 2025.
Dan M Moose peacefully passed away in his sleep on December 26, 2024 one day after his 95th birthday. He was surrounded by family and caregivers during his final days and hours. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Geraldine (nee Falvey) and his 6 children: Diane (Dave), Paul, Carl, Lisa, Cara (Bob), Katie (Aaron) as well as 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Dan was born in Kokomo, IN on December 25, 1929. He was the only child of Harry and Effa Moose. He attended New Palestine High School, Purdue University, and received his Master's Degree in Economics from the prestigious University of Chicago. He served in the U.S Army Reserves from 1950-1962 and was honorably discharged with a rank of Sergeant First Class. His work in the Army Transportation Corps led to a lifelong love of trains. Dan also enjoyed sailing, ice skating, and hockey. He served as the local skating club President, enjoyed planning various local skating events as well as coaching and refereeing for local youth hockey teams. Dan played and refereed hockey well into his 70's.

Dan was the sole financial provider for the large growing family and all of the children attended St. Ann Catholic School in Cleveland Heights. Dan and Gerry are long time St. Ann/Communion of Saints parishioners and have lived in Cleveland Heights since 1960.

One of Dan's greatest joys was the family cottage on the shores of Lake Erie where he and the family spent long summer days enjoying the outdoors together. He spent many days sailing on the lake with friends and family and enjoyed time in retirement at the cottage.

The family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to the staff at Anna Maria Nursing Home in Aurora for caring for Dan in his final months as well as to his hospice team from the Hospice of the Western Reserve. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve in Dan's name. A Memorial Mass will be held at Communion of Saints/St. Ann (2175 Coventry Rd Cleveland Heights, OH) on February 15, 2025 at 11:30 a.m.
