Dan Nelson

Nelson, Dan Daniel Harold "Dan" Nelson, age 66 of Grand Rapids, was ushered into the presence of his Savior Thursday, February 6, 2020. He was born May 8, 1953 in East St. Louis, IL, the son of Joseph and Lucille (Schanke) Nelson. Dan had a wonderful sense of humor and a distinctive laugh. After many years of employment at Meijer, he became a professional motorcoach driver. He loved driving, striking up conversations and forging new friendships with passengers. Dan was especially proud of his 20 years as team driver for the West Michigan Whitecaps. More than anything, he loved the Lord and was a faithful follower of Christ. Dan was preceded in death by his parents and his parents-in-law, Pete and Minnie Nauta. He is survived by loving wife, Lori Nelson; children, Peter (Erin) Nelson of Stanton and Amanda (Scott) Hanson of Grand Rapids; grandchildren, Brooklyn and Nehemiah; brothers, David (Marilyn) Nelson of Greenville, Paul (Janet) Nelson of Greer, South Carolina; and John (Elizabeth) Nelson of Pottersville, NY; siblings-in-law, Phil (Elizabeth) Nauta of Pierson, Dave (Becky) Nauta of Grand Rapids, Lois (Bill) Satterlee of Ionia, Brian Nauta of Greenville, Lynn (Brian) McManus of Ohio, and Lavonne (Todd) Halsey of Hudsonville; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at West Cannon Baptist Church (5760 Cannonsburg Rd., Belmont, MI 49306), with visitation from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm prior to the funeral. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding. Memorial contributions may be given to the Salvation Army.
