Dan Sexton, born January 22, 1954 in Dayton, Ohio, died of a fast-moving pancreatic cancer on February 1, 2023. He passed at home surrounded by the love of his family; his wife of 44 years, his son and daughter and 3 beautiful grandchildren who were the light of Pops' life.
Dan, a graduate of Ohio University, began his career in the television industry in 1977 in Dayton, editing and shooting video at local TV stations and for PM Magazine. He was tapped by the producer of "Evening Magazine" in San Francisco, made the move across country in 1982 and settled in Marin.
Dan's award-winning career spanned the next 30 years. He created programming for KPIX, Preview Media, and KRON. He was VP of Television for CNet, bringing television to the internet in 1995. He had an eye for talent and a gift for storytelling that he shared generously with his colleagues. His work took him all around the world with access to people and places in a way that few get to enjoy. In 2000, he formed his own production company and produced programming for many cable networks over the next decade.
Dan retired in 2012 and moved his family to Petaluma. There he enjoyed a more relaxed pace, listening to music, watching his grandchildren grow and conversing with new friends.
Charitable donations may be made in Dan's honor to Dogwood Animal Rescue and St Jude Children's Research Hospital. A Celebration of Life is planned for March 12, 2023 from 1-3 p.m. at the Petaluma Woman's Club in Petaluma, CA. RSVP here.

Taken too soon, Dan brought his down home humor and outlook on life to KPIX, reflected in his entertaining program content. Sending heartfelt condolences to Lonnie and the kids. Stephenie and Kelly Hendricks

I met Dan through our children.
We spent some holidays together, watched our granddaughters softball games and dance recitals. In Dans presence, I felt I laughed a lot. He could make me giggle, if not a full belly laugh at his comments.
The main thing about Dan though, was that he was a kind man. RIP Dan, you will be missed.

Dan was a co-worker of mine back in the KPIX days. And while we worked in different departments Dan’s talent was a shining star on every level. I remember a sly smile and a twinkle in his eye. May his family and loved ones be comforted by their memories and legacy Dan leaves behind.

I met Dan while working on Evening Magazine in San Francisco. "Back in the day," we had each other's backs. No one could have asked for a better colleague. Sincere condolences to Lani, the kids, and family.
Happy trails Dano, rest easy.

I graduated High School in West Carrollton Ohio. He was a funny funny guy and totally lovable. He was one of the cool, artsy guys. He will be missed. So sorry for his family’. It’s so shocking to lose someone to such a sudden illness like this.

It took my breath away when I read the news of Danny's passing. He was a special friend of mine from West Carrollton days. Such a sweet, funny, guy, who, by the way, introduced me to Grand Funk Railroad...I think of him every time I hear them..lol. Looks like he lived quite the success story, which doesn't surprise me, & with a beautiful family. I am so very sorry for your loss. My sincerest sympathy and prayers sent.
