Daniel M. Vranesh, age 94, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2014 at the Veterans Home in Boulder city, Nevada. He was born in Hibbling, Minnesota in 1919 and was one of eleven children born to Serbian parents, Marko and Mildred Vranesh.
Daniel resided in Minnesota the majority of his life until his recent move to Las Vegas in 2012 to be closer to family. He was a distinguished World War II veteran. He served as a Technical Sergeant and infantry platoon sergeant with the 378th Infantry Regiment of the 95th In Rhineland, Northern France and Central Europe. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Purple Heart (wounded in action on December 16, 1944) and Commendation from the Commander of the 95th Infantry Division, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge and European-African)Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three bronze stars and the World War II Victory Medal. He was also awarded France Liberation Medal and Metz Liberation Medal from the government of France.
After Daniels military service he worked and retired from the Minnesota State Employment Agency for Veterans.
Daniels was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Marry Ann, his parents, his sister Helen and his brothers George, Nickolas, Robert Alexander and David. He is survived by his sister, Dorothy Sams, his brothers Joseph and Peter (Gail) and sister-in-law Janice Vranesh, all of Las Vegas and brother Walter Vranesh and sister-in-law Margaret Vranesh of New York. Fourteen nieces and nephews also survive him.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30pm Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at Chisholm Cemetery in Minnesota. Military rites will be accorded by the Hibbing VFW Post #8510. Fr. Radomir Plavsic of St. Basil's Serbian Orthodox Church in Chisholm will officiate. Visitation will be from 12-1pm Tuesday, August 12 at Rupp Funeral Home and Chapel.
